My family recently spent five nights at Hotel Zum Wolf al Lupo, and we loved everything about it! ||We are a family of four, and we booked the family suite on floor one with a large balcony overlooking the mountains (room 4). It had two large queen beds as well as a sofa bed, so this room could even fit a family of five. ||The bathroom was quite large and convenient. There was a mini fridge, small seating area, and plenty of storage in the room. ||We loved the breakfast every morning! Everything you could want along with eggs and cappuccinos to order. Visiting with Veronika each day was a highlight! She is so full of energy and positivity! Every day she reviewed our plans with me and gave me feedback, suggested lifts up various mountains, offered to make us restaurant reservations, etc. She was a pure delight and we were sad to say goodbye to her!||Overall I think the location of this hotel is perfect. I debated for a long time which town to make our home base in the Dolomites. Castelrotto (Kastelruth) is still small enough that you feel like you're witnessing day to day life with residents. It's not overrun with tourists shops. However it's extremely convenient with three grocery stores and several cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It was also a bonus that they had a parking light directly behind the hotel where we were able to park for free. For bike enthusiasts, there was a shop across the street and rented and sold tons of gear. This hotel is perfectly located to make day trips to Seiser Alm, Lago di Braies, Bolzano, etc. ||I can't recommend this hotel enough! They're very good with email communication, answering your questions, etc. I actually booked with them directly via email.||Tip: don't miss the lift to Marinzen Alp right across the street next to the Co-op! We loved this 30-minute ride up the mountain and our lunch at...

Read moreThis hotel was, in my opinion, the most convenient and pleasant in Italy. Incredibly historic building, 13th century Alpine architecture, in the centre of town. Seconds walk from multiple convenience stores, supermarkets, tourism centres, restaurants, and the town's central bus stop. Amazing views and convenient to everything in town. Very well maintained by the incredibly friendly staff (who seem to mostly only speak German, no English, and very little Italian) who work very hard to communicate and were absolutely some of the most friendly and helpful people we encountered in Italy in a month long stay - treated you like family. When the staff's shift is over for the day, they give you the run of the place - the bar is self serve, and you are literally pouring your own cocktails from their fridge and leaving the money, in the very nice dining area. There's a second dining area for their large, very Alpine breakfast; the most impressive hotel breakfast I've seen anywhere. The rooms have a nice balcony, very spacious room with lots of places to sit (tables, chairs, couches, etc) - and lots of common sitting areas. There is a fridge in some but not all rooms, so be sure your room has one when you first check in if it's necessary. There is access to a (not free) laundry machine.
Included with the room is a Sud Tyrol Transportation Pass - for free. This means you can take the bus from your town to the surrounding towns for access to other mountains and gondolas - even all the way back to the train hub at Bolzano. There's an e-Bike charging station right next to the hotel if that matters to you. Very clean, very comfortable,...
