Honestly disappointed by the very short interaction I have had with the waiters. My friend and I booked a table at 7pm by phone, which went through. Arrived at the restaurant at 6.30, with our hiking backpacks, we say hello. There were two waiters, not one welcomed us properly. We thought “wow for a 4 star restaurant, we deserve at least proper welcoming”. Then, we kindly asked the waitress if we could leave pur backpacks for thirty minutes while we visit the small village. She looks at us weird, you’ll imagine, with a degrading look, and proceeds to call the manager. Manager arrives, no welcoming once again, we repeat the question, and he quite poorly refuses our request.
For a village situated in a hiking region, this, in my very opinion, is an extremely poor way to handle customers who come back from the mountains. To perform profiling in such a way, probably thinking we looked too dirty or maybe too poor to enjoy a meal at the restaurant. We cancelled the booking and instead ate some super tasty pasta at the Ristorante Pizzeria Zur Alten Schmiede, where we were properly welcomed with a large smile on the waitress’ face. If you’re looking to have an enjoyable experience with respectable waiters, do not hesitate to avoid this...
Read moreWe were so excited to have dinner there, we made a call, booked a table, and came down from Compatsch a bit earlier to visit Kastelruth. For the half hour left we decided to ask the restaurant to leave our hiking bags in their hands so we can visit the village serene with light shoulders.
But what was our surprise when we arrived, not only did they refuse to take our bags, we got greeted with such disdain simply because we are hikers with big bags and hiking shoes who decided to spend there last dinner in a nice restaurant before the train back home. The waitress who ignored us on our arrival, had to call the manager who simply refused to find a simple solution for us, not even in their garage, back alley, side door, staff corner, nothing. We were so shocked and felt so abused, we had to cancel our table at this miserable place. We found the loveliest restaurant with a great menu and an amazing and smiling staff right around the corner 😋
Don't go eat where dideaneaus people work, it's so much nicer to support a place that greets you...
Read moreI gave a 4/5 for the food, but I’d have rated it 3.5, as I found the food, while okay, to be disappointing for the price.
The outdoor seating was beautiful and the service was fantastic.
I ordered the lamb dish, and it was lacking that special something - the vegetables were bland and overcooked.
One friend ordered the schnitzel (the fries were fresh) and the other Borscht - both said they were good.
For appetizers we had the Ravioli (which was average as the pasta was extremely thick) and the Tyrolean dumplings (which I personally didn’t like, but I felt the dish was well made). The salad was also underwhelming and was basically just shredded cabbage.
From the photos of other reviews I was excited to try the assorted desert plate, which looked amazing in the photos. It was again underwhelming and I wouldn’t recommend it - I’d go for the gelato shop...
