The Town|If you take one of those all day tours from Florence around Tuscany it will most likely include San Gimignano. I did that a few years ago and this by far was the most beautiful place on the tour. Everyone says this is the most beautiful town. You won't regret spending a night or two here. Relax and enjoy the town and the view -- esp at night when the crowds go away.||Getting There|Cars are not allowed in the old town....unless they are dropping you off for a hotel. Our driver took us up a back road and dropped us at the front door. It was easy and quick.||Entrance|No bellman. One of the family members was behind the desk. Check in was quick. The lift is small so we took turns going up.||Room|The room is definitely outdated and could use a refresh. But when you open the window (assuming you got a room with a view), the view is spectacular. It's what you came to Tuscany to see. It had modern amenities and was clean.||Breakfast|It was simple and filling.||Area Around|Right outside the door is the cistern and the town square. From there you can get to any of the shops, bars or restaurants. There are many little places with incredible views.||Conclusion|We really loved this place and would stay...
Read moreThe Hotel stands right in the middle point of San Gimignano. The hotel sent us maps and suggestions of parking facilities at the city wall a few days before so that we were prepared - which saved us a lot of hassles. Our room is right opposite to the lift doors and near the breakfast room - at first we thought that it would be noisy, but it is very quiet. So the supposed problems became advantage. Also we got a view of the landscape - which was good even in rain. The breakfast buffet was nice - and the egg boiling machine is a good idea. The hotel is right near to everything - one can buy the San Gimignano Pass at the Museum of Sacred Art at the street corner and visit all museums covered without much walking. We spent 2 nights there and visited almost every corner in the ancient city. The staff was nice and helpful, and they checked and helped us to send the laundry to cleaning service (at a cost), and on the next day we got back the laundry clean for the rest of the journey. The receptionist also gave us good restaurant recommendations. The bar in the hotel building served a fine selection of wines and offered good snacks. (we don't know if the bar belongs to the...
Read moreStayed two nights beginning of November. We could not have been more happy with the amazing location right in the historic center on piazza della Cisterna We had a Double room (#21) with valley view at a very reasonable price, For being in a historic building, the hotel is fully updated with many modern amenities. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed and were able to get right to our room( before normal check in time). The included breakfast was very nice and there was a lovely terrace next to the dining room as well.
A note about parking, when we drove in, we tried to park in parking lot 2 near the main entrance but it was full. So we ended up in P4 and rolled our bags to the hotel. It was a bit of a trek but doable. We paid 15e for the overnight parking. The 2nd day we were able to snag a spot in the busy P2 and it is a straight walk up the main street to the hotel.
Overall so happy with this hotel and San Gimignano is a...
