Read moreWhat a spoil for our last evening in Tuscany! If you can, try and book a day in advance, this place is popular and is pretty much constantly busy. If you can't, do take your chances and just go, it's worth it. The host is very nice and if they can't seat you right away, you will be offered the opportunity to enjoy a beverage in their garden, which overlooks the incredible views this place is known for. I had a very happy prosecco whilst we waited 30mins for a table - hardly a hardship & actually felt like an extra treat!
Food wise - delicious. We had the caprese Buffalo mozzarella salad to start, and I had the most incredible balsamic marinated steak of my life. The sauce was absolutely out of this world and I had no regrets (it was one of the more expensive things on the menu but 100% worth it.) Just a reminder that in Italy they don't serve sides with their meat dishes unless you order them, so don't forget to ask for the roast potatoes! My husband went for the wild boar stew which he loved (I had to share my potatoes which was fine, there were justtt enough for two!) For dessert we indulged in the lemon sorbet and the lemon torte - our favorite was the sorbet, creamy and a wonderful palate cleanser post a rich meal.
The staff are friendly and efficient, and the kitchen is on point, we didn't have to wait too long for our meals at all. The setting and the views over the rolling hills of Chianti made this the perfect ending to our stay in...
Read moreMy wife and I visited Le Vecchie Mura for an anniversary 20 years ago and it was the best Italian meal we had ever had in the most beautiful setting. So when we were coming back to Tuscany with our kids, we knew we needed to go back.
We booked ahead for a 6pm table for the six of us on the terrace overlooking the gorgeous Tuscan hills. We were fortunate enough to have a perfect night, with mostly clear skies and just a little chill in the air.
The food was as we remembered it (and not much changed over that period actually). Servings of the pastas were generous, inexpensive and delicious and the steak was delicious as well. My wife and I had a local bottle of wine between us and we all had desserts. By the time we left we had all had more than enough to eat and had a night that was truly memorable.
I hope we don't have to wait another 20 years to eat here again because it is an amazing experience.
We visited in a Monday night and there was a long queue of people waiting to get in when they opened at 6pm, some with bookings and some without. I would definitely recommend booking if you want an earlier sitting on the terrace, but you might get lucky later in the evening - there are plenty of little wine bars open till late in San Gimignano if you...
