This lovely collection of buildings was recommended to us by friends who had worked in Siena. As a result a group of us decided to spend a week investigating the joys of Tuscany as well as celebrating a couple of birthdays.||It was originally an olive farm and whilst the olives are still harvested the buildings have been pleasantly converted to apartments offering a range of accommodation. We had one with three double rooms all with en suite bathrooms and a living room / kitchenette which was adequately equipped for the amount of self catering we planned not to do!||The apartment had a fabulous view overlooking the olive groves and the outskirts of ||Siena which was what greeted us each morning along with the sound of the bells from town, delightful. Apart from the owl and the local pheasant it was very tranquil especially as Siena was a bus ride away. The prices are very reasonable and we were offered discount for an early booking.||The complex is very clean and decorated with pots of plants. There is a very pleasant pool area along with a 'salon' offering comfortable seating, wifi access for the ability to work or just relax with a book. There was also a table tennis table and a football table.||Should you fancy a BBQ there is a lovely covered area with BBQ, table and chairs, ideal for a party or just a family barbecue. Fuel is provided or take a foraging trip for dead wood.||Outside sported a giant chess set for those who dare. It is suitable for all age groups.||We loved the fact that we could bus into town , dine out and either bus back or take a cab ; it was so easy and great to leave the car behind. Another benefit was that from town we could travel further afield by train or bus making use of the excellent public transport system available at a reasonable price whilst absorbing the lovely countryside.||Angela was extremely helpful, nothing was ever too much trouble for her and she was a fount of local knowledge, as well as being a charming hostess.||We would certainly stay again, Siena is a lovely city and has much to offer, be aware that the hills are perpendicular!!, but there are escalators at various locations to take you down or up.||The Taste of Siena Food tour available through the Tuscan Wine School is worth doing, a trip to the market on a Wednesday morning is a must along with a visit to the Musee Civico to view the fabulous art work so beautifully preserved.|| We had a...
Read moreI need to state that my wife and I, sister and families have all been to Le Meridiane more than once. In fact many times over several years.||We just love it.||Its self catering convenience suits us and we are constant visitors to Siena for the Palio.||The rooms are modest and clean, tidy and with all you would require but there is no air con.||The swimming pool is quite large and offers showers and toilet. All spotless.||There is even a barbeque area.||Thankfully we were the only ones to utilise it this year.||And not forgetting the staff. Angela and Viola are great. Plus others of course.||Everyone is most helpful and considerate and booking on line is easy with their assistance and guidance.||||Its probably best to arrive with a car, although we didn't this year as at peak holiday times it's almost impossible to park anywhere in Siena.||However, its a bit of a hike to walk into town. ( well it would be for me) but its by no means impossible if you like a good hilly walk and are fit.||The bus is at the top of the road and takes you directly into town every hour. You can purchase tickets from the office.||Taxis cost circa Euros 12 / 15 for a trip to town and come within 7 minutes of a call.||There is a smallish shop nearby for basics but for a decent food shop one needs to go to the supermarket. I suggest the one near the station as its not far by car.||I can honestly recommend Le Meridiane to those that like self catering and the country feel with fantastic views.||It's not fancy but it offers great value for money.||I'm probably the only one who will mention this but if you go to the top of the road and turn left, walk for about 10 minutes you will get the most spectacular view of Siena . Truly breath-taking . It's even better by night.||Until...
Read moreResidence Le Meridiane is a conglomeration of beautiful buildings with separate rooms. The rooms are clean, clean clean! There's ping pong, a giant chess set, I think there's a pool too - the grounds are gorgeous. Here's the downside (to me it's the upside!) if you want to go to the old town Siena area you have two choices: 1. Get in your car and ride over there, find parking in the mish-mash of humanity. White line spots are OK. 2. walk over. Our family did both. I enjoyed walking much more than driving. I'll post a map to show the beautiful path to walk to town, it only takes 25 minutes to walk from Residence Le Meridiane to the Siena Duomo. Don't take Google map walking way, use my map, it's half the time. There's a really fun park with a zip line along the way too. I had an 11 year girl, up to 51 year old me, walk this with ease. We paid 180 euro for three rooms, one night. Deal of the century!! Parking onsite is either outside or...
