Le Maschere — Hotel in Venice

when we arrived, it was not apparent where we were to enter. When we called the number the man came to us after 5 minutes. He told us to enter a different entrance so we went and the building was very strange. We took the stairs to the 3rd floor and realized that it’s basically a hostel with a private bathroom. We asked to see the room and he allowed us. Then my wife looked and by her face showed that it was not a good place. The man became upset and started to tell us how if he was Italian instead of Indian probably we wouldn’t ask to see the room. However, the condition of the entryway and building in general is what caused us to ask to see the room. He was personally offended despite me also being a person of color. The room was old, without any comfort. The bathroom had a bad smell from the plumbing and when taking a shower the water doesn’t drain out fast enough so it fills up rapidly. Very bad experience. I think many places in Venice try to pretend to be nicer than they are but are very poor. Cannot recommend. Below the apartment is a local restaurant and the windows of the apartment are not the gratest. You hear absolutely everthing until the restaurant closes. Other than that, i had to receive some change from the owner because i payed a little more for the tourist tax. He told me that he will leave it on the table next day. I haven t receive that change. The room was nice and comfortable, but the kitchen doesn't have the bare minimums, it is just a counter and a microwave, not even a toaster. But overall it is a good place to stay. It is really really close to the bus station to go to Venice (3 min walk) And it is also close to the train station...
