A little more updated than the hotel we had to leave early. The TV has plenty of streaming options, there are numerous outlets, and best of all, there's a Lawson and a delicious bakery (that opens at 7:00) on the ground floor! What a way to start the day whether you want out early or plan on chilling in!
Larger will find the rooms are spacious (a welcome break from the tight spaces typical of many Japanese hotels). There was more than enough room to do my morning workout routine and have two of our luggages open! And if you need anything the staff on the 5th floor were so very kind and helpful (a big shout-out to them for accommodating our emergency walk-in request, arranging an appointment excellent taxi to the Eki, and always being available and cheerful).
Something else travelers may want to know: there are FOUR laundry machines in this hotel (compared to the typical two we've seen everywhere else). The status of each machine can be found on your TV too, which not only is handy but probably also contributes to these machines not sitting idle with someone's clothes from hours ago. They are the standard machines you see everywhere, so you will need 100 Yen coins and you can't use your own detergent (fair warning to people with sensitive skin).
If there's any downsides it's that the hallways and rooms smelled a bit of smoke (something that seems common around Aomori). It definitely helped to get out of the hotel often...or open the windows, which they thankfully let you do, even high up.
If we have to stay in downtown Aomori again, this hotel will be amongst the first we consider.
p.s. thank for you for the welcome apple, and greeting us with a display of apples and...
Read moreA planned three night stay turned into eleven nights when my husband had an emergency hospitalization in Aomori. I believe I could not have been in a better place during this very difficult time.||||I was treated by the entire staff with the utmost kindness. I was originally warned by the doctor that my husband could be hospitalized for several months. I was assured at the Richmond that they could accommodate me and they would keep me in my same room for as long as possible. As others have noted: there is a nice laundry facility; the breakfast is enjoyable (with a local specialties and apple juice!); there is a Lawson store connected to the hotel as well as a bakery and restaurants; the room is spacious and very clean and quiet. As a woman alone, I felt safe and protected. After a harrowing and exhausting day at the hospital, the Richmond was a comforting haven to return to each evening. I do not speak, understand, nor read Japanese, but the staff was heroic in trying to meet my every need. Saki-san was especially helpful and she went out of her way to do all she could to make things easier for me. ||||I have stayed in many of the world's best hotels, but none can compare to my experience at the Richmond Hotel. This is not only an excellent business hotel but a lifesaver, staffed by the kindest most professional people I have ever encountered. I now consider it my "home-away-from-home". We plan to visit again as...
Read moreMy sister and I booked the Richmond for our first night on our Tohoku roadtrip, after a long day of flying. We each had our single rooms upgraded to double rooms, which was good for re-organizing luggage. The only glitch to be aware of is that our rental car navigation system seemed to freak out every time we got near the hotel, unable to figure out the sort of obscure alley-like entry-turn for accessing the garage. Basically, we had to drive around the block a few times before we physically saw where people were driving in/out. Once you find it, the "vending machine" style garage is easy and pretty cheap (about $9/night equivalent). The front desk is on the 5th floor. Our rooms were roomy, clean, and the bedding was excellent (with sufficient extra pillows). There was some street music audible when we arrived (even from 13th floors up) but it seemed to go away by 10. The hotel breakfast buffet was very good. Western/European items included really nice salad, eggs, bacon, potatoes, fried chicken, swedish meatballs, bread, cereal/yogurt. Japanese selections included a noodle and rice bar, tons of really nice pickled items (including some local products), various fish, and soup. Fruit juices included a really nice local Aomori applejuice. The hotel was in walking distance of the waterfront (10 minutes). We also walked to a great katsu...
