I recently stayed at Dormy Inn in Aomori, Japan, and it has quickly become my favorite accommodation so far. Here's why:
Breakfast Buffet: The day started with a delightful breakfast buffet that offered an impressive selection of dishes. From traditional Japanese cuisine to international favorites, there was something for everyone, ensuring a delicious and satisfying start to the day.
Onsen Experience: The onsen at Dormy Inn was truly exceptional. Both the open-air and indoor baths were wonderful, providing a serene and relaxing atmosphere. What made it even more special was the complimentary ice cream or digestive yogurt drink after each onsen visit, depending on the time of day. It was a perfect touch to enhance the overall experience.
Magical Open-Air Onsen: One of the highlights of my stay was the open-air onsen. I visited in mid-December and was fortunate enough to experience snow while bathing in the hot spring. The combination of the warm water and falling snow created an enchanting ambiance that was simply unforgettable. It truly added a magical touch to my stay.
Perfect Location: Aomori itself is a fantastic destination, especially for snow lovers like me. I thoroughly enjoyed my time exploring the area, including peaceful winter strolls and multiple trips to nearby towns by bus. The quick Shinkansen ride to Hakodate was also a wonderful addition to my itinerary, making the stay even more enjoyable.
In summary, I highly recommend Dormy Inn to anyone visiting Aomori. Its exceptional amenities, warm atmosphere, and convenient location made my stay truly memorable. It stands out as one of the best hotels I've experienced in Japan, and I can't wait to return.

Onsen was great and laundry having free washing (pay for drying) was also very convenient. Free water comes with the room with replacements if you request a towel change even without needing full room cleaning.
The main thing that holds this hotel back from a higher rating are the quality of the rooms. First, the noise insulation is not great. I was on the 8th floor and could hear most things outside from people coughing to crosswalk signals. And of course noise from the hallways are much louder. A note for western foreigners is the beds and pillows are very firm. The pillow specifically felt like I was sleeping on a rock. The air was also a bit stuffy/musty inside so if it bothers you you’ll have to keep the AC running all night.
However, I would say the combination of price and the overall quality outweighs the negatives, and the staff was very friendly and most spoke some level of English (they even had a foreigner working the front desk...
