I came to Makuhari for a few days and I ended up living at this guesthouse and all I can say it's a hidden gem. At first sight, the outside seemed to be bit worn-out due to the age of it and also some recent weather activities, however, the inside is nice, cosy and clean. The rooms are traditional Japanese and offer enough space for basic activities. The bath with its bathtub was a nice extra - I recommend a hot bath. The rest of the house (kitchen, bath and toilet) are narrow but functional. On the other side, I am 6'6" (200cm) tall, so basically everything seems a bit small for me. The garden is great and gives the chance to have a little party, bbq or relaxing time with friends or fellow guests.
The interesting thing about the house is the location. It appears a bit off the grid, however, once I was living there I realized how much I appreciated the spot. It's relaxing and quiet and offers a nice contrast to Japan's usual buzz. However, it's just a 5-10 minute walk to Makuhari Station and all the shops and restaurants around. The Makuhari Messe is not much further away, which is nice when you are here for business purposes and Disneyland is also not far away, which makes the guest house a perfect fit for families.
The best point about the house is the lovely family that made my stay special. They took great care of me and tried to help me whenever I had a question or when I needed something. The three kids are amazing and well-behaved and I never felt disturbed by the family's activities. We had a bbq once with the family and friends and I felt like a real part of it. It was a great and authentic experience. I also learned about the future plans for the house, especially the garden and I am more than excited! Future guest will have a fantastic time here.
I recommend this place highly to people that want to meet a lovely and interesting and also maybe a bit unusual (in a good way) Japanese family. However, if you are just looking for a quiet place to stay, this house will be also more than...
