The room we stayed in was nice and cozy with two heaters and three beds. There is a little space in between the windows and curtains which we put some of our things in. There is a small washroom with a toilet, sink and bathtub all fitted together in one room, but there was still space to stand in. There is also a table with two chairs and a TV above it. There is also a cupboard. The lighting is good. There is a main light and two other bedside lights.
The food is very good and special. The owner of the pension, Kayoko San, introduced the foods to us and informed us that all the food was made with local ingredients from Iwate. Every day has a different meal and they are all delicious.
Kayoko San, the owner of the pension, is very kind and can speak English very well. There is other staff who help Kayoko San serve breakfast and dinner and the meals are all prepared fairly quickly. This pension also allows dogs. The dogs can sit with you and eat with you during mealtimes.
Kayoko San has a van that she uses to drive clients from place to place. She will drive you from the train station to the pension and she can also drive you to the ski resort and drive you back. If you wish to eat outside for dinner, you can either request Kayoko San or one of the other staff to drive you to the restaurant or walk there. There is a fair number of restaurants near Pension Mutti which all serve good food.
I definitely recommend Pension Mutti to anyone traveling...
Read moreWe came here with friends who recommended it. They spoke very highly of every aspect and we were not disappointed.|Firstly, Kayoko is a lovely host. Fiercely proud of her Iwate-produced food and full of Appikogen history, she makes you feel very welcome. She'll drive you to and from the ski resort and other connections, given notice. Her English is very good.|The setting is idyllic, within a beautiful pension village of lovely architecture. The building itself is sturdy, homely, and enchanting. Rooms are all warm, there are relaxing areas and a splendid onsen both inside and outside. We loved it.|Finally, the food. Again, hopes were built up and Mutti delivered. Amazing cuisine every night. On the first night, course after course came out, including salad, soup, Iwate trout, a perfectly cooked steak and baked apples with ice cream. Other nights included an elaborate spread involving shabu-shabu, and then next day pork steak, scallops etc. Truly filling. Breakfast consists of sausage/bacon, eggs, bread, yogurt, soup. Bring your fat pants. They will also endeavour to adjust for any dietary requirements as long as you let them know.|It is very reasonably priced - not sure I've experienced better value for money anywhere else in Japan.|All in all it was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to return here next year. 3 nights probably...
Read moreI've stayed at Pension Mutti four years in a row. It's an annual skiing trip I always look forward to. ||Kayoko is an amazing host, who will go out of her way to make sure you have a great holiday and is genuinely happy when you do.||The food is excellent. Breakfast includes fresh rolls and REAL bacon (such a rarity in Japan). The dinners alternate between western and Japanese and both are a real treat (best steak I've had in years). Bring loose-fitting pants cause there's a LOT of food and you'll want to eat all of it.||The place is well set-up for skiing (which, btw, is excellent at APPI) and Kayoko helps getting to and from the mountain, as well as sorting out rentals and lift passes. ||Finally, the indoor/outdoor baths are perfect for a post-skiing soak.||Excellent value and...
