Appi onsen Shirakaba-no-yu — Local services in Hachimantai

Amazing brand new hotsprings! Appi reformed and reopened their hit springs in July of 2017. I'm addition to the indoor baths and sauna, they added an all cedar outside bathing area. Not only is it beautiful, but it also smells incredible. There are almost too many outside baths to choose from. There are tubs built for one or two, a rock tub big enough for a family, etc.

There is even an awesome bath where you lay down on a stone slab with your head on a rock while water runs down your body covering the bottom half while leaving the top half exposed to the air. This gives you the most relaxing experience imaginable.

One of the greatest parts of this hot spring is that all the outside baths are perfect temperatures for kids. Bring the family!

After your bath they have coffee milk for sale. A requirement hour any real hot spring. Also, spend the ¥300 for three strawberry soft soft serve. Much like the hot springs, it's worth every yen.

Even with the high cost for this hot spring running ¥1000 for adults I could not recommend this place...

Had free access here as a guest at Hotel Appi Grand (free shuttle for there or a 10min walk). Great facilities and one of the nicest onesns I've been to. Very large indoor onsen to warm yourself up before heading outside to one of the outdoor pools. There are some large tubs to also sit in for a while. The sauna is large but not quite hot enough for my liking. Free parking if you are driving, I used this when heading back from Hatchimantai dinner evenings...

This onsen is very nice. Indoor, there is a hot bath, a cold water bath, and a sauna room. The best part of this onsen is the outdoor bath which is simply amazing. It’s so soothing to come here after a long day ski. Don’t miss the matcha ice-cream after the soak. I do have some complaints about this place: the onsen closes at 23:00 (should make it 24 hr), and the outdoor bath is not open in the morning session (it’s a pity not able to have a morning...
