Staying at this ryokan was truly the realization of a long-held dream. From the moment I arrived, I felt warmly welcomed. Check-in included a lovely snack and tea that set the tone for the rest of my stay.

The highlight was undoubtedly the private outdoor bath attached to my room, offering a serene and immersive onsen experience in complete privacy. In addition, the ryokan features three reservable private baths (first-come, first-served) and a beautifully maintained communal bathhouse, giving plenty of options to relax and unwind.

The food was exceptional. The multi-course kaiseki dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast were both delicious and beautifully presented. I appreciated how the menu shifted with seasonal ingredients, showcasing the chef’s attention to detail and freshness.

Another wonderful touch was the generous selection of snacks and drinks available throughout the ryokan, including alcohol. There was a convenient snack room on my floor, as well as a more extensive lounge in the basement. Spa treatments were also available, adding to the luxurious and restorative feel of the stay.

This ryokan was clean and truly captured everything I hoped for in a traditional Japanese inn with hospitality, tranquility, and a deep connection to nature and culture. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Some former guests complained about the steep incline up to the ryokan. It might be a bit difficult for those with mobility issues.

There is also a cable car that goes from Hakone Yumoto station to Gora station, and from there, it is three minute walk to the ryokan. It won’t show up on your Google...

We stayed in a Garden View Japanese Style Twin Room, and it was much too spacious for 2 people (it was probably more spacious than most 1-bedroom units in Tokyo!). We loved it! It was clean and cozy. We had our own private bath, a balcony looking out over at trees (not really a garden, but still greenery), a small living room, and twin beds. I especially loved that the room came with a drip coffee set (coffee beans, grinder, dripper, pot), which was great to enjoy in the morning. I loved the smell of the room (I didn't ask, but smelled "woody", herbal, tatami, all blended together). My only minor issues was that the bath was too hot (need to let it cool a bit before soaking in) and that there was only 1 pillow per bed (we probably could have asked for more).

There were also 3 private baths you could enjoy, and it's good for people who want to having a "semi"-outdoor onsen experience ("semi" since it's still enclosed but half the ceiling is open). I recommend going in the early morning before breakfast, as there's almost no waiting time at all during that time (we could literally hop from one private bath to the next, as there was no one else). The other best time to go is during dinner time, when everyone else is having dinner (I think most people went after dinner, and at that time, better to use the private bath in your room instead).

We didn't get dinner there, but we did opt-in for the breakfast, and it was luxurious and delicious. I recommend trying both the Japanese and the Western style. Make sure to go in hungry, as there's quite a...

Our first Onsen at a hotel experience after many visits to Japan. This is something everyone should try once to indulge in the Japanese culture. The hotel is located 5 minutes from the Gora station. Be warned there is a steep walk up to the hotel so can be difficult if you have lots of luggages. You can arrange hotel pickup at the Gora station. We got the twin room with private Onsen in room and cost around $650 USD per night and stayed for 2 nights. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price. For breakfast there is Japanese and Western options but we opted for Japanese both days, why be in Japan to eat western food right lol. Dinner is like 6 course Japanese menu - small portions but very unique and delicious. Japanese breakfast also many courses and small portions. Each meal experience is very memorable and delicious. You don’t get to try this everyday unless you are in specialty restaurants. We left very full each meal. The hotel also has free drinks - alcoholic, pop, water, coffee and tea. Snacks and ice cream also included. Ramen is offered for free from 10 pm to 1 am for those that fancy late night snack. There are private Onsen on site and first come first serve, along with public Onsen. We would recommend getting a room with Onsen which allows you to bath as many time as your heart desires. The staff and service is top notch. Overall I would definitely come back and recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to experience an Onsen outing.

All staff are friendly. They tried to speak English or used Google translate to communicate. The rooms were nice, spacious and clean. I liked that there were snacks 24/7 however they weren’t restocked often in the bar area when we went down around 10pm. The view from our room was nice and the onsen was truly amazing. They even had private onsens for you to try out in different areas in addition to the private onsen in your room. The only issue I had with the property was the lack of flexibility regarding the food system. I don’t eat beef or pork and wanted a western breakfast which contained some pork. I asked if they could simply leave the pork out and give me the rest of the food. Apparently that was not allowed and they couldn’t make an exception. Given we were paying $500 per night, I thought the food was made fresh and not in bulk. We ended up cancelling our breakfast and going somewhere else. This place is not friendly to people with dietary restrictions so keep that in mind before booking. There were not many details online when booking. The dinner kaiseki was mediocre at best. The food didn’t have much flavor or variety. Both my partner and I were hungry after. Overall, this was a great stay in terms of having a comfortable room with a nice private onsen.
