箱根鮨処 然 -ZEN- — Restaurant in Hakone

This was the best sushi I’ve ever had. I eat a lot of sushi in America including several Omakase Michelin stars and nothing has compared to this.

I came for lunch and ordered the 7 piece set menu. After tasting the sushi, I requested to upgrade to the 11 piece menu because it was absolutely exceptional.

The fish was very tender and extremely flavorful. The wasabi had the perfect level of spice. The miso soup was very creamy and delicious.

The owner of the restaurant is extremely attentive and clearly takes pride in producing a very high level of quality.

I will absolutely be coming back next time...

Incredible spot! We had a set menu and everything was delicious - excellent sushi, delicious steamed egg custard, wonderful grilled fish, tasty seaweed starter, and more. The simple tuna rolls were the best I've ever had. Chef Kenichi was lovely and chatted with us throughout the meal, telling us about his days working at a three star Michelin restaurant in Hong Kong, where I used to live. We ordered sake which paired wonderfully with the dishes. We loved it so much we came back for lunch...

The chef was amazing. Very attentive. The issue for us was the ambient was off. We were the only ones there, super bright white light and no music, so for a fancy-ish dinner, it didn’t satisfy our experience. Pretty pricy but that’s expected for sushi places as this. The sushi was good, had a bit too much wasabi, had to take some off to be able to enjoy the sushi. I’m sure for a food expert this is an amazing place, for just some random tourists, there are better...
