What a beautiful oasis of calm, comfort, relaxation and therapeutic bathing! |The staff here are exceptional, even by Japanese standards - they are so kind, welcoming, thoughtful and respectful. As a solo female traveler you can often be treated awkwardly but not here! The staff were so inclusive and the hospitality is wonderful. |The rooms are large and the views from the large floor to ceiling bedroom windows are incredible. Looking out on the forest all the way up the mountain. |It was really good value too, my best value stay by far in Japan. |Staff, especially Shin, give a great explanation of how the Onsen works in terms of how to dress, behave, bathe, and this was really helpful as a first time user. The onsen are spotlessly clean & well maintained. There’s inside & outside baths here. Lovely cosmetic products & amenities in the room & onsen shower and vanity areas. |Close to Ohiradai Station. Easy walk downhill for 300m. Though the road is busy with traffic. There’s a free shuttle provided too. |The yukata provided are stylish and comfortable. I would love to buy one for myself! Socks & mule sandals provided too. |Food wise the breakfast is basic but good quality - pastries, coffee, tea. No restaurant on site but I was easily able to get a bus to neighbouring Miyanoshita and had a gorgeous Nepalese butter chicken curry & naan in Circle Hakone and got a bus back. Highly recommended. Very convenient. I can also recommend 808 monsmare in Hakone - close to the station. |I was a bit apprehensive when I realised there was no shower in the room but it had no impact at all, you shower in the communal area at the baths before you enter the onsen pool. |The music night in the lounge is really special and the drinks menu is thoughtful and well priced. The pepper spirits and the sparkling plum were divine! I really enjoyed listening to “ambient forest sounds” and relaxing in comfort and style.|The hotel is very well linked by public transport and my Hakone free pass allowed me to travel around easily & explore the area with excellent frequency of service on trains and buses. |I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel. Sincerely, thank you for a truly special experience. (Note: it’s also called “hot...
Read moreOur stay at hakone suisen was absolutely delightful! It's a short, downhill walk from Ohiradai station. A bit precarious on the side of a busy road, but if you're not comfortable walking it they will come pick you up if you call!
We got there before check-in, and they held our bags so we could go explore hakone without them, and they had put them in our room when we came back for the evening. Check-in was very quick and easy. A sweet girl named Yuna helped us through the process, including explaining the onsite amenities and how to use the onsen.
Speaking of onsen, what a treat! At the end of a long day of walking and travel, a soak in the hot (very hot) water is just what the doctor ordered. So relaxing! It's very peaceful to sit in the open air sauna and listen to the wind rustle the leaves of trees overhead. This hotel is very small, so the onsen was not crowded, and often we had the men's and women's all to ourselves!
Our room was very big and the beds were comfortable. The view from our deck up the mountain was such a sight to wake up to! We did not spend much time in the lounge or common areas, but we did walk through them and they are cozy and tastefully decorated.
Breakfast was an assortment of pastries and specialty roasted coffee. An attendant is on hand ensuring everything is well stocked and tidy.
When we checked out we asked for shuttle service to the Ohiradai station so we didn't have to cart our luggage uphill.
This was a great stay! Our only regret was not staying two nights to have more time to see Hakone and another night in the onsen. Thank you Hakone Suisen for an...
Read moreReally beautiful property & people.|Room was definitely the experience I was seeking. That said:|This is a good place if you are going to chill.. if you're going to wander, you may want to consider your options.||This is a little "off the path".|You will have to walk over 200 meters down to hotel, up to transportation along a narrow (and dark at night) path alongside moving cars. You'll also need to cross without a crosswalk or notice to drivers on busy road. I need to stress how much this affecting my short trip to Hakone...|Again, my choice to stay here. I do not fault the property, hence my 4 stars.||There is zero around in terms of restaurants/stores. They do have frozen snack options, and vending for water and such, but you should be stocked up when you retire for the evening.|If you are looking to be remote and unbothered, here is your place. If you're going to adventure, which Hakone is great for, I'd consider Gora (not a lot of restaurants, but central if you plan on heading to lake/ropeways, etc.) or Yumoto. A little away from many of the Hakone things to do, but main hub; so more places to eat, shop, & still beautiful small town feel.|I made the best of my time here. But I knew once I arrived, and hoofing my luggage down the narrow path, that it would be a long couple days of back and forth, and it was. I guess on the map, I couldn't completely foresee what I would take on.||My time on property was great though.|Just know what you're looking for when you...
