We went to Arima Onsen and stayed at Hyoe Koyokaku for only 1 night.||Our group reserved a few types of room, but my room with my auntie and my niece was on the top floor with private hot tub outside the balcony. As the Ryokan is on the hill so the view from our room was breathtaking!||There was a massage chair in the room too, but I didn't use it.||As we arrived in the evening, so we were in time for the Kaiseki dinner reserved in at advance. The Kaiseki dinner was spectacular and delicious!||After dinner, I went back to the room and found that they had arranged the Japanese style futon sheets for us to sleep.||Anyway, I went down to the public bath (onsen) and very much enjoyed all the onsen facilities in the Ryokan.||The next morning, I got up early and headed down to have myself soaked once again in all available bath area. I really enjoyed the hot spring very much both day and night, and both inside and outside bath.||After the bath, it was breakfast time! We had delicious breakfast buffet style.||Then it's time to explore Arima Onsen little town and lovely old streets, before checking out.||Although the Ryokan was quite old and outdated but service was very good.||The building complex was quite confusing though, if you use a wrong elevator or corridor, you might end up somewhere in the building instead of where you wanted to go! So try to stick to the usual way you use to go to lobby or public bath area.||I'd love to visit here again if I...

(Trip was made back then on 8 Dec 2019, 2 years before the Covid-19 Pandemic hit)

Can’t believe it’s been 2 years since we stayed at this ryokan.

Even though the decor might look a little dated, it’s actually very clean and well maintained.

The rooms are designed in the traditional Japanese style which I love and had a brilliant view of the natural landscape (depending on which room you get). They also had a personal massage chair in the room for you to unwind in.

They offer quite a variety of options for breakfast also which was buffet style in a communal setting at the restaurant.

Dinner itself was a very personal affair in your own room and the dishes were just exquisite. Of all the ryokans we have stayed at, the meals served at Hyoe Koyokaku were the best. We could tell that the ingredients were high quality as it’s so fresh and the taste was just divine.

And of course, their onsen was just amazing, with 3 different style baths to choose from. There are even 3 massage chairs just outside the onsen where guests could relax in.

The staff were very hospitable and provided great service in spite of the language barrier.

It was a good decision to indulge by staying 2 nights at this ryokan. It was one of the most memorable experience we had and would definitely love to revisit again when Japan opens up to travelling in the future after...

We (2 adults and 1 child) stayed for two nights in this wonderful hotel. It's located in the center of the well known Arima Onsen. The hotel has pick-up and bring service that covers the train, bus and cable car stations in the surrounding area. It's very convenient to get around. The hotel is well organized and the rooms are super clean. We stayed in the traditional Japanese room, which is fantastic. Wearing the yukata, sitting on the tatami while viewing the beautiful mountains just so easily brings peace to our minds. The onsen in the hotels are also fabulous. It has three very large and different public bath. All have outdoor areas. We tried the private ones too. They are all very well maintained and easy to use. Our 7 year old son enjoyed it too. We chose the buffet dinner because of our picky eater son. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the buffet dinner. In addition to our extra Kobe beef dish, wagyu beef is included in the buffet too. There are many other dishes, which are all in high quality and very delicious. We took the cable car and wondered in the Rikko mountain area during the day and then came back to the hotel for a hot bath, and then enjoyed the wonderful buffet dinner. We couldn't be more satisfied. Highly recommended!

Hyoe Koyokaku is a historic inn with a 700-year history. It is a well-known establishment that has stood the test of time. The hotel features the largest-scale bathhouse complex in the Arima Onsen area, with three different styles of large bathhouses. This makes it an ideal choice for those who want to fully enjoy the pleasures of soaking in the hot springs. The inn has a Japanese-style hot spring called "Ichi-no-yu," a Western-style hot spring called "Ni-no-yu," and a hot spring with a traditional Japanese medicinal hot spring style called "San-no-yu." Each of these large bathhouses offers the famous Arima "Kin-no-yu" (Golden Spring) hot spring water. During my stay, I could really feel the history of the hotel. It is not dilapidated, but you can see the traces of its long history. Overall, the hotel is in decent condition. However, the price is quite high, so naturally, I had higher expectations. For example, there is no complimentary drinking water in the room; you have to pay extra for it. Compared to other hot spring inns, this one seems a bit lacking in this regard. In summary, the main selling points of this hotel are its history and the hot springs.
