Knowing that most activity in any Japanese city occurs around the railway station, I chose the Comfort Hotel next to Kochi station. However, Kochi is not a large place, so apart from a decent nearby supermarket, some small shops and a couple of restaurants there was nothing much of interest in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.||||Next to the railway station is a bus station from where one may catch cheaply priced buses to several sites of interest, such as Kochi Castle and nearby there is also a tram stop for city sightseeing. ||||First impressions of the Comfort Hotel were that it was very clean and organised and that impression never faltered. My room was immaculate. The bathroom had bright lighting and all the surfaces were glossy white, glass, mirrored or chrome, all highly polished and shiny and the towels were bright white. Lovely! ||||The bed was comfortable with high quality linens and pillows, so it was a good night’s sleep and this was one of the biggest Japanese mid-priced hotel rooms I have stayed in. They are usually minuscule with no place to store luggage or to place a laptop.||||The receptionists were rather vague and spoke no English. They were confused about my prepaid reservation even after I showed them my booking confirmation and reservation. Eventually, after much frantic tapping on a computer keyboard, one of the girls smiled a broad grin and so it became clear that my reservation had been found. It took a while though.||||A free coffee and tea set up is available for most of the day in a lounge adjacent to the lobby and, like everything in the hotel, was spotlessly clean and was maintained tidily. ||||Breakfast was limited, but excellent. For Westerners they was cereal as well as Danish pastries, croissants, scrambled egg and sausages, fruit slices, yogurt and cereal. Additionally, there was a good selection of Japanese breakfast fare.||||I was able to take a fast, reliable, air-conditioned bus to the airport. The cost was only JPY ¥720.00 (approx. £5.25 one-way) versus approximately £30.00 for a taxi for the 25-minute journey. The bus departed and arrived at exactly the times stated on the scheduled given to me in the hotel as one has come to...
Read moreReally clean and modern design at a good price. This hotel is very near Kochi train station, making it easy to get in and out. I would definitely stay here again when in Kochi on business. ||Not sure how well the staff speak English, but they were very friendly and attentive. ||The bed was nice and firm. I could have used an extra pillow but I had a very comfortable night. ||WiFi connection was good with an account and password for each room - password on the TV monitor. Best of all, lots of power outlets and USB charge points, including next to the bed. ||Free coffee is available in the “library/lounge” from 2pm until 12am. The breakfast was also good - not a huge selection but tasty and varied enough. I enjoyed eggs, breads with jam, grilled vegetables and a nice and vegetable grain salad. The espresso from the dispenser wasn’t bad either :)||Pick up nightwear after check in on your way to...
