Terrible Experience - Hidden Charges, POOR Service & Lack of Amenities. Highly Not Recommended.

I booked a room with no mention of “inside” or “outside” options. Upon arrival, the receptionist didn’t explain these details. My room faced a noisy road, so I asked to switch to an inside room immediately after entering the room. Instead of checking availability or explaining the charges upfront, they told me not to touch the room and come down to the reception to check. After I went down, they only demand an extra 3300 JPY PER NIGHT—fees that were never disclosed anywhere.

The receptionist’s service attitude was ABSURD—this is the first time in my life I’ve encountered such poor behavior. Their explanations KEPT CHANGING: first, it was an upgrade fee from an outside to an inside room. When I pointed out there was no mention of different prices, they even asked me to contact the booking agent directly, as if they had no responsibility for this hidden charge. When I requested to see if this fee was listed in their official price menu, they changed their explanation again, claiming it was simply a fee for ANY REQUEST, regardless of what it was, which is also not indicated anywhere.

The basic amenities - bottled water NOT provided; shower caps and disposable slippers required going to the front desk to request them every time; room service provided ONCE PER 3 DAYS, extremely inconvenient. And the amenities details were not mentioned at check-in—I had to ask the front desk myself.

The lack of transparency, hidden charges, shifting excuses, lack of amenities, and poor service made this stay frustrating....

I have been traveling the world for 35+ years. I have stayed in star rated hotels of every type. This is a 2 star hotel masquerading as a 4 star. Rooms are small, no place to unpack a couple of big suitcases. The cleaning service is only on alternate days. They do have an onsen bath which is nice but bare bones. Doesn’t have a sauna or jacuzzi. They don’t have tea bags in the room. When I asked for some she pointed to a notice that welcome drinks are only available between 10 am and 8 am. I had to literally fight to get a couple of tea bags from the breakfast area. There are no amenities in the room. You are supposed to pick up from a bank near the elevator and that too bare bones. Don’t expect body lotion even in this hotel. I booked a triple room anticipating that would save me money. But 2 rooms would have been cheaper and more spacious. A tripe room literally was a tiny dormitory with hardly space between the beds. The breakfast was okay but don’t expect omelettes or anything fancy. It is super crowded at breakfast time because this is basically a hotel that tends to group tours at discounted rates and the groups are in a rush to get out in the morning. If you are traveling by yourself there are much better options. The staff were poorly trained, spoke little English and don’t know the meaning of the word hospitality. The only thing good was the location near the Nijo castle and a 10 min walk to the Nijo station. Overall a bad experience and wouldn’t recommend...

We stayed at Kyoto La’gent Hotel for 3 days (2 nights) during our visit to Kyoto, and it truly lived up to its 4-star reputation. The hotel exudes a sense of luxury from the moment you step inside. The reception area leads to the restaurant and buffet sections, connected beautifully by a semi-open Zen Garden featuring an elegant abstract sculpture.

The staff at the reception were exceptionally polite and helpful; they even assisted us in coordinating our luggage delivery from Osaka. Near the lifts, don’t miss the vending machine offering drinking water and other beverages.

Our room was spacious, comfortably accommodating three guests, and featured a clean, well-equipped washroom with a bathtub and all necessary amenities. The hotel also has an onsen for guests to unwind. The breakfast buffet was delightful, with a few vegetarian options available as well.

Overall, Kyoto La’gent Hotel added a quiet charm and a touch of comfort to our Kyoto vacation, making the stay both memorable and relaxing; perfectly in sync with the peaceful vibe...

Great hotel with spacious rooms and good design decisions. The location is arguably not the best. A city bus stop is just outside but we found the bus a bit slow and crowded. JR Nijo station is another good option. Hotel policy states they clean your room every 3 days however they bring new towels every day. Put your rubbish in a bad outside the door if you want to get rid of it - that’s in the rules. If for whatever reason you managed to stay hungry and not feeling like eating out, there’s 7-Eleven just across the road and a huge grocery store 3m walking the same street. Plenty to chose from and 40% discounts after 9pm

The rooms were small, with no space to store suitcases or hang clothes. There were no plastic laundry bags, and the room didn’t come with an iron. While cups and a kettle were provided for hot water, no tea or coffee was offered as a welcome gesture. Additionally, the juice and tea were removed from the hall. Upon check-in, we were charged extra city taxes, even though we're foreign guests and this wasn’t mentioned in our Booking.com reservation. We also requested early check-in, but that request wasn’t accommodated at all. The breakfast was good, and the onsen was clean and enjoyable.
