If you want to travel comfortably and safe with your family, avoid this hotel at all costs. The location is in middle of borderline redline district where there are girl’s bars and drunks are everywhere at night when the night clubs and bars open even just right across the street from this hotel. If you are on a budget, and would love to explore the night life, this is a great location where you can basically walk anywhere historical during the day light. but for me, and my opinion only, I would rather spend money elsewhere. My family stayed at this hotel for a few nights because we weren’t eligible to cancel the reservation. I would give this hotel a negative star if I could.
The rooms - we requested a non-smoking room and the room has a strong smoke odor. My kids hate the smell of smoke and we asked if we could switch rooms and we were told that there are no vacant rooms at the moment and cannot change our reservation. It was such a horrible experience. On top of that, the sink area and bath tub reminded me of 1980’s old bath tub and the tub didn’t drain properly, and the water took about 5 minutes to drain after I showered, which I felt unsanitary. If you want to explore 1980 style business hotels, this is it.
I am usually laid back about the hotel, and I should have done enough research before I reserved the rooms (due to an inexpensive cost per night compared to other hotels in the area).
It was 100% my fault for choosing this hotel and I am leaving this review so others don’t make the same mistakes as I did. Save your money and go elsewhere, make sure to look at the addresses of where you are staying to make sure that the location is safe for you and...
Read moreCouldn’t quite put my finger on it. I have been coming to this hotel for almost 6 years. It’s my “go to” place when visiting Nagasaki and was responsible for me to chose the premiere in Oshiage. ||However, these last few visits have left me puzzled. Don’t get me wrong, Richmond is by far the best this side of Nagasaki. A lot more mature than H2, Candeo and a far cry better than the other “usual” suspects. ||The restaurant is amazing and up until recently the breakfast is the best anywhere. ||The rooms seem a bit worn down. There was a lot of dust in my room. The beds once gave the best night sleep, are now worn with age. ||Still the place is relatively clean. The staff, in general, are nice and helpful. Except for one guy, who I can’t seem to remember his name wasn’t as helpful as in the past. ||It seems that Richmond Nagasaki has a policy that if you are staying for longer than a week (which I was due to the Corona situation) then they will not charge you for two weeks (even though you had reserved the room and are a long term member). ||No, they will instead charge you for a week at a time. Which sounds like a great idea, but when they fail to notify you, disable your key, force you to pay or be “escorted” to your room and observed while retrieving your wallet, then marched downstairs to pay, as if your a criminal trying to skip on payment, then the place loses that trusting feel. ||Which is what happen to me. The treatment made me feel that my loyalty to Richmond is not...
Read moreThis hotel works fine for a couple nights to explore Nagasaki, and it’s reasonably priced, but we just overall didn’t like the vibe of the hotel. ||The building likely used to be a full smoking building because our first “non smoking” room had a very strong cigarette smell to it. We were moved to a new room which was better, but still not fresh. The hotel lobby has such a strong perfume smell to it (probably to mask the smoke smell), it made me feel a bit ill.||The rooms are spacious enough but very dark and cold feeling. The design of the building does not let a lot of natural light in and the lighting is kind of “hospital like.” They do provide lots of supplies- toothbrushes, razors, amenities, and even Pyjamas (although ours didn’t smell laundry fresh)||The hotel is 22 mins walk from the train station or you can take a tram. Next time we would find a hotel closer to the station for...
