During a recent visit to Okinawa, I opted for a day pass to explore the amenities of the Moon Beach Hotel and Resort without an overnight stay. The day pass was priced at 2000 JPY, which allowed me full access to the hotel's beach and pool facilities. Lobby and Entrance: Upon arrival, the beauty of the lobby immediately struck me. It's elegantly themed to reflect the tropical environment, providing a warm and inviting entrance that sets a promising tone for the visit. Beach and Pool: The proximity of the beach to the pool is a standout feature, allowing for seamless transitions between lounging by the water and taking a dip in the pool. Both areas are well-maintained, with clean toilets and wash facilities enhancing the experience. However, it's important for day visitors to note that while in-house guests receive complimentary beach towels, those using a day pass must pay additional fees for beach towels as well as parasols. Fitness Gym: I also paid an additional 1100 JPY to access the fitness gym, a decision that, in hindsight, I regret. The condition of the gym equipment was disappointing. Much of it appeared to be over 20 years old, showing significant signs of wear such as rust on the dumbbells, bars, and machines. Some of the machines felt unsafe to use, particularly due to broken locking pins on the weight slots, posing a potential safety hazard. Furthermore, the absence of drinking water in the gym was a notable oversight, as staying hydrated is crucial when exercising. Overall Experience: The pool and beach are undoubtedly the highlights of the Moon Beach Hotel and Resort for a day visitor. These areas are beautifully maintained and provide a delightful environment for relaxation and enjoyment. However, I would advise against using the gym facilities until substantial refurbishments are made to ensure safety and improve the overall quality of the equipment. The stark contrast between the pristine condition of the lobby and pool areas and the dilapidated state of the gym was quite jarring. Until these issues are addressed, the gym does not offer a good value for the price or a safe environment for workouts.

Our stay at Moon Beach Resort was a mixed experience with several highlights and a few disappointments. The room was a good size, and the bathroom was surprisingly spacious—a pleasant surprise since larger bathrooms are not typical in Japan. We really appreciated this aspect of the accommodation. The private beach was beautiful, and the ocean was pristine. Since we visited during the off-season (Christmas), we had the vast resort almost entirely to ourselves, which made for a peaceful and relaxing experience. The gym was quite rusty and outdated, but it was still functional enough for a decent workout. The resort has great potential, but unfortunately, many parts of the property feel run-down and outdated. Some sections of the building even resembled a prison, which detracted from the otherwise tropical atmosphere. The service was adequate, with staff just managing enough English to assist us. However, we found the strict rules a bit frustrating. For example, when we tried to sit on a chair in an empty area, we were told it was only allowed if we ordered something. This rigidity took away from the laid-back vibe we were hoping for. Although we didn’t get to try the food, the resort offered a variety of activities, which looked great. Unfortunately, we couldn’t go wakeboarding because it wasn’t available on the day we planned to do it. One standout positive was the resort’s excellent follow-up: I accidentally left my charging cable in the room, and they kindly sent it to me via post after I contacted them. In conclusion, Moon Beach Resort has immense potential due to its location and facilities, but it could use some modernization and a more relaxed approach to guest services.

A Truly Exceptional Stay in Okinawa – 5 Stars All Around We stayed at this incredible hotel in Onna Beach and were absolutely blown away. Everything about it is 5 stars. We had the 80m² suite, and it’s hands down the biggest, most impressive hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. The room was brand new, beautifully designed, and had floor-to-ceiling views of the beach and pool — truly breathtaking. Breakfast was another highlight — served in a stunning space overlooking the beach and pool, with a great variety of fresh and delicious options. The staff were genuinely lovely, always helpful and kind, adding a personal touch to the experience. The hotel also features a gorgeous residential members club that guests can access, offering snacks, drinks, and alcohol — a very relaxing place to unwind. Parking is available on-site and costs around 500 yen per day for the first three nights, which we found very reasonable. The location on Onna Beach is perfect for relaxation, and the beach itself is clean and beautiful. That said, the immediate area around the hotel isn’t particularly lively or walkable. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores nearby, but if you’re hoping to explore or dine out more adventurously, renting a car is definitely the way to go. Overall, this was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had — luxurious, peaceful, and thoughtfully designed. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a premium Okinawa escape.

Don’t go here…

Most of the staff speaks less english than I speak Japanese and I don’t speak any Japanese. I constantly had to just point or use google translate to have even the most basic conversations like ordering beer.

The place is in the middle of nowhere, there’s just a few very basic restaurants around and you’d need to rent a car to get around as the taxis are quite expensive since you have to go far to go anywhere really.

The hotel restaurants are the worst meals I’ve had in Japan, breakfast is sub par at best, lunch is not local dishes but instead some very badly crafted international dishes that are expensive and looking like a budget version of mcdonalds. The dinner was decent tasting but ridiculously expensive for what you got. Beers cost about 7-8 dollars for a 33cl glass that isn’t even filled to the top.

The tennis court and gym looks like it was built 50 years ago and not renovated since. Tennis is quite expensive as well.

Everything costs money here, the Onsen/bath thing which usually is free at the hotels for guests costs money, you’re not allowed to snorkel at the beach because they want to sell expensive snorkeling trips. The sunbed parasols are either up or down (decided by the personel each morning), if they’re down it’s free to sit on the chairs but you’re not allowed to put up the parasol. If they’re up then it costs about 20-25$ to sit at the chairs and you’re not allowed to take the parasol down (this is literally for their own private beach so it’s ridiculous). Most people ended up sitting on the edges of the beach to be able to sit in the shade without paying.

The beach in itself is quite nice but you’re not allowed to run, jump in the water or even stand on the floating rafts in the water.

You’re also only allowed one key per room and you have to leave it at the reception every time you leave the hotel so you pretty much always need to stay close by to your roommate if you want to have access to your room.

Rooms are actually what you’d expect, can’t really complain there but the cleaning of the rooms occur at very weird hours.

This is the fifth hotel during my Japan trip so far and it’s the only place I have any...

Worst hotel experience ever in my life and I have stayed in much lower star hotels with better hospitality. I had paid up front for my hotel rooms AND additional beds. Once my family and I arrived, without any sort of typical concierge greetings, we were showed us an arbitrary number of an additional fee we had to pay. Side note-- we are a Chinese-American family, and I throughout our short-lived trip there, I saw them interacting with Japanese and White guests in a much more welcoming manner. We obviously wanted transparency and clarity on what the fees and numbers meant before paying. There was a clear language barrier, which is understandable when traveling abroad, but even with that consideration, the staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. After us very calmly trying inquire about the costs, the manager, in a tantrum, said “don’t talk to me anymore, talk to her” (referring to his other staff member). Eventually his staff apologized for his behavior and told us that they would explain to me more clearly the next day since it was already late into the evening. The next day we did not receive a clear verbal explanation, instead we were threatened with a posting on our door demanding payment or they would “change your room locks when you are sleeping or away”, but this time the number they were demanding had gone up 5x. This was the first time they had clearly explained what each cost meant (each kid traveling with us had to pay extra per night), but I was obviously frustrated because they had completly jacked up the price without explanation. That evening, we paid half of what they were asking because we didn’t plan to stay another night. After we checked out early, I still kept getting emails demanding payment on our last two nights (the payments being having kids there) when we had already checked out. In addition to a horrible staff experience, the rooms are much to outdated for them to be charging the ridiculously high baseline price they are asking for the rooms. We moved to another more beachside hotel around the same price range with similar pool/ leisure emmenties, more toilet amenities, and most importantly, much more...
