Loving this place! I hit my head a couple times on the ceiling and I'm a short person - lol! SoI imagine that might be a problem for some others too, but overall the bed was really comfy, layout really homely, felt like a place I could just be me! Super open atmosphere plenty of socialising can be done if you're up for it in the evening, especially with the super friendly volunteers. But also equally just enough space to stick to yourself if that's what you want. There's towels you can rent, free WiFi, bodysoap shampoo and conditioner provided, hairdryers, a guitar, etc. I've seen some complaints about not having anywhere to store your things and that's only somewhat true. While the hostel doesn't have locked lockers like most hostels I've been to, there is a small passcode locker for valuables e.g. Passport, money, etc for free, and there is a small box to store things in by your bed. Not passcoded or anything but it's a barrier. Honestly, while the hostel aren't responsible for any losses of luggage, you can likely trust that nobody staying there is going to steal your things and it's not really any different from other hostels I've stayed in because they normally only have small lockers, not big enough for a suitcase.
Hope this is an informative review for anyone a bit nervous like I was initially! This place is awesome and it definitely won't be my...
Read moreThere's no fun event or tour to make your journey fun! The co-host told me that Ryuichi is on vacation and those tours are just happening "sometimes". So don't think about that much. You HAVE to make your bed yourself which is not interesting to someone very tired arriving late at night. Breakfast is just there somewhere and is NOT provided. You have to take a box from a shelf and help yourself from that and also jam from the fridge and don't expect a hotel-like breakfast serving. It simply means that there are somethings for you to eat in the morning. No elevators are available. you have to go one floor up to reach the bar and meet the host, then one floor up to get to the kitchen, bathroom, and restrooms, then again one floor up if you're on 3rd floor and two floors up if you're unluckily at 4th floor to reach your bed. Lighting in your bed area is also very dim and not the same as the pictures :) In short, I didn't like my stay there and it adversely affected my feeling about Osaka. I do not recommend you...
Read moreLoved staying at R Guesthouse in Osaka!!!!
This was a great stay for my visit to Osaka. The owner, Ryu (san), is super friendly and kind, and he runs a bar on the first floor so you can get acquainted with other locals and travelers. Ryu san also helped me to find my way around town (I wasn't using a SIM at all) and find some of his favorite restaurants.
Beds are comfortable and sufficient, and around the back of the building you can find a public bathhouse where you can soak after a long day of walking around the city. The Wifi was string enough for me to do my work in the afternoon.
I met lots of great people here and I will be staying here again the next time I am in Osaka (and Ryu san also has a Guesthouse in Hokkaido as well).
10/10 would definitely...
