I have been fortunate enough to be able to visit the Rusutsu and Niseko resorts many times since moving to Japan, and I can tell you that Rusutsu has become my favorite resort to snowboard at between the two. While Niseko might have the name recognition, you would be seriously remiss if you do not consider staying here at Wapura Rusutsu Yotei and spending your holiday on the slopes of Mt. Isola and the Rusutsu resort. Avoid the crowds and long lines of Niseko and find yourself running the untouched powder and tree runs of Rusutsu.
Our stay at Wapura Rusutsu was a wonderful experience. The house was modern and spacious and included everything we needed for a fantastic holiday retreat. It was clean and welcoming when we first arrived. It included all the amenities we needed for cooking our own meals if we decided to eat in. Towels were provided along with shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. They also have a washing machine, along with soap and fabric softer. The entrance area had plenty of room for all our gear and dried everything by the next morning. All the amenities were easy to use with English translations on everything, along with a welcome book explaining how to use everything.
The house is just a short walk from the Rusutsu Resort Hotel and the connecting gondola that will get you over to east mountain gondola and quad lifts that will get you up the mountain. If you have a car, it is a short drive over to the east resort parking too. Alternatively, you can just take a short walk over to the west resort area.
There are a couple very nice restaurants nearby, and a 7-elevn and Seicomart convenience stores are right down the street within easy walking distance. While Rusutsu might not have the nightlife of Niseko, we were more than happy to trade that for the beautiful views out our windows and the ability to take a wonderful snowshoeing hike through the woods behind the house.
I was able to ship all my snowboard gear via ‘TA-Q-BIN’ using Yamato Transport (kuroneko) directly to The Westin Resort. It was a quick drive over to The Westin to pick my gear up from the Yamato desk next to the rental shop. Returning my gear was just as easy by going to the nearby 7-eleven on the morning of our flight and shipping my bag back home. You can also go to the Yamato desk during operating hours if would like.
Communication with Wapura management was quick and easy. They answered all our questions in a timely fashion and advised us that they had local management staff nearby during working hours if we had any issues or needed anything.
We will gladly stay here in the future for all our...
