Tanpopo Shokud — Restaurant in Rusutsu

We made a reservation and they told us that we had to be out in one hour. Fair enough, we ordered some food. It was pretty tasty but way over priced for what it was. One thing that we did order was the snow crab hotpot. 4,000 yen and it came cold with frozen crab legs in it. We did not get this until 20 minutes into our 'time slot'. It took 15 minutes for the water to boil and for the crab to thaw. Five minutes later the waiter came and asked if we were still eating?? We had not even touched the 4000 yen soup! Yes we said and he google translated on his phone ' you need to leave in 15 minutes. Ok we said but the soup has just finished cooking, now it's boiling hot, we will do our best. At 10 to the hour, he brought our bill. Very un- Japanese, in so many ways. Then he came back and told us that we had 2 minutes to leave. We are quiet and respectful people and found this to be the oddest behaviour. We got up at exactly our expected departure time, even tho we were not finished eating and paid our bill and left. The restaurant was less than 1/2 full and it was only 6pm, so I am not sure if this is their normal behaviour or what but it totally ruined our experience and to say the least we will not return. Quirky entertaining restaurant with good food and good value for money. If you sit at the back you have to fetch your own orders from the bench, but it's kind of fun and adds to the experience/ atmosphere. The kitchen lady has a microphone that she speaks into with your table number, and you have to fetch it, fast!

My favourite is the lamb and the chicken heart skewers. Sukiyaki looked good here so I'll try it next time.

Note: a bit of swearing/inappropriate comments written on the walls including bathrooms, in case anyone's thinking of bringing kids here.

Very popular izakaya in Rusustsu located upstairs in a run of 5 small izakaya/restaurants.

The menu is much larger than previously posted. I just uploaded all 9 pages.

The food is all Hokkaido produce, so seafood, chicken, beef, potatoes, dairy, mushrooms. The specials on the board were king crab and some Grilled fish I think.

Try everything. Best to make a booking if you are looking for 6-8pm in winter tourist season.
