Saw some great reviews and decided to head to this restaurant for dinner during our trip in Yakushima.
The food portion here is big and it serves many local seafood and produce. We made it a point to try out flying fish and also this very unique crustraciean which I thought is a shell fish called kame no te (translated as turtle leg) because it is how it look like.
When we spoke to the waitress, she explained that it is more like shrimp than shell fish and when we tasted it, it actually tasted more like baby squid to us. It seem like the correct way of eating is to suck out the meat but I use chopsticks to dig it out instead given I wasn’t sure how it was eaten until the owner of another restaurant told me. It was quite an experience from the look of it but it taste really good with wasabi and soya sauce as they are boiled.
They served flying fish that is grilled or fried and we opted for fried which served with spicy oroshi (grated radish) and ponzu (citrus soya sauce), the whole fish can be eaten from head to tail to the fins too. Highly recommend the fried ones.
The giant shrimp seem to be a popular dish as well as we see many people ordered and boy that was a right choice, it was so juicy and meaty! We enjoyed our meal so thoroughly.
Each set comes with huge portion of rice, chawamushi (steamed egg custard), side dish, miso soup and you can top up sashimi which we did and cost around JPY2000, so worth it.
We spotted mostly locals but there were also a few foreigners, highly recommend this place. Parking is just right at the back of the shop but they only have 2 lots so you might need to find elsewhere if you...

Read moreThe food was delicious. Our local guide recommended this restaurant, a ln excellent recommendation. My partner is vegetarian and we were glad they have vegetarian options like soba noodles with deep fried tofu (which was quite good). These aren’t marked out as vegetarian on the menu, we checked with the staff and they were very helpful. They have a menu in English, and the food portion sizes are quite large. Payment is...
