Highly recommend this place for other if you happen to be in Shibu town.
To be honest, i was hesitance at first to choose Kameya as 1 of our accommodation on our road trip since the place seems very small. But turned out it was one of the best memory that my mother had on this trip.
The place is operated by 2 grandmas and 1 grandpa. All rooms are spacious, has kotatsu, private toilet and sink. There are several baths on the 1st floor, especially they even have 2 open air baths which is rare in the town. It also in the walking distance to other public baths.
Regarding the service, it is top notch. During our stay we could always feel the hearty welcome and warm hospitality from the grandmas and grandpa. Upon arrival, we could not get into the ryokan so 2 grandmas had come out by car to great us and showed us how to get in. My mother is vegetarians, and they did their best to accommodate her meal request. I was very grateful for that. More than that, on the day of check out, it was raining outside so they told us we could stay as much as we needed. We were melted by their kindness. Definitely we would stay again if we ever pass by this town in future.
One note is you will need to call them to make reservation as they do not use internet by all mean. My husband called them and he could hear the sound of writing with a pen. You can always ask hotel staff who speak Japanese to call and them to make reservations on behalf of you 1 or 2 days before to make reservations, i do not see many other guests there so i believe they always have room available . Though my husband speak japanese, i believed they speak...
Read moreThis is a hotel in a hot springs village. I didn't actually stay at the hotel, and I only came here to enjoy the baths. In the village itself you have many bathing opportunities, and this one was open in the late morning, so I just came in here by chance after a recommendation from the tourist information window, and I was surprised at how beautiful everything is. The building itself is quite old, as are the baths, but they were crafted well and they've been maintained well, so it's an enjoyable bathing experience. It's also nice to step back in time 50 years and imagine what used to be much more common for people living all...
