Holy Wow. We stayed a few nights in Shibu Onsen last November and everything was closed. We stumbled upon Tokumi and everything from the old-school vibe to the kindness immediately captivated us. The food is out of this world: I just remembered to write the review mainly because I keep missing the tofu stew and fried rice that I had two nights in a row from Tokumi. If you ever find yourself in Shibu Onsen, you have to stop and eat here. I guarantee you’ll want to return just as much as I want to everyday since.

We had Chinese dumplings along with two ramen : one with vegetables and one with pork and everything was absolutely delicious! The dumplings were soft and flavorful, simply perfect. 😍 The owner does everything by himself, the cooking, the service, and the orders AND the service was incredibly fast ! 💯 The menu is also available in English, and even though the owner doesn’t speak English fluently, the communication was easy and pleasant. Highly recommend!💯

Great place for a dirty bowl of ramen... you will see what I mean if you get a seat facing the kitchen. They guy know how to knock up a bowl of steaming hot comfort food which goes great with a large bottle of Kirin. Perfect after a day of seeing the monkeys chill in the mountain’s volcanic springs or after a day walking around in Japanese clogs from one Onsen to another. Perfection.

Food was really good. We had gyoza, pork ramen and fried rice (very peppery). The chef who was the only person there, was friendly and understood English. The menu with photos and English translation was super helpful. The downside is that the restaurant smells like old cigarettes and is dirty. The fridge is also really noisy and it has bright (ie harsh) lighting. This place is not for everybody. I admit, I did want to leave when we first walked in, but the hotel recommended it, so we stayed and had a...

Great balanced flavours, options on ramen bowl sizes (small, med or large), range of other dishes, no filler dishes, very reasonably priced and upright seated tables available for those too stiff to sit on ground. Have eaten at four restaurants up this end of Yudanaka and this was by far the highlight - if we’d come here on day one, we’d have gone back each day. After disappointing off-the-shelf gyoza in Tokyo, it was a joy to have fresh handmade ones at...
