This is a beautiful traditional guest house that is family run with top hospitality.
The room is very spacious - split into two areas. The sleeping area is modern style with western beds and a little sitting area next to the beds. The living room area is traditional Japanese style with tatami floor and a low table and seats which I love! I had to work on some days and would sit in the living room comfortably. I was on the 2nd floor overlooking the beautiful garden. My home away from home. There is a large thermal flask which they fill with hot water everyday, green tea bags in the room and a teapot and tea cups to make yourself tea. There's also a mini fridge, a toilet and wash basin.
Like most traditional Japanese guest houses the showering is done in the onsen which I have grown to like as a practice because I love going to the onsen everyday. After skiing all day and being in the cold, a little soak in the onsen feels so good! All amenities are provided in the onsen and the yukatas they offer interchangeably are pretty.
I had a scrumptious breakfast every morning in the breakfast room with a lovely garden view. There's almost always too much food for me to eat- meticulously prepared and delicious. I enjoyed speaking to the cook that would bring me my breakfast. During my stay I had one in-house dinner and omg it was incredible! We had many Japanese dishes, appetizers, sashimi, main dishes, a sukiyaki and dessert - food heaven!
One evening I brought back two kimonos and asked the lady boss if she knew how to put on kimonos the right way and could help dress my friend and I in the kimonos. (The Kimonos are not from this guesthouse, I'd borrowed them from someone else!) She gladly obliged and came over with her mother and aunt, these two elderly ladies helped dress us two girls in kimonos the proper way! It is quite a ceremony, putting on the layers of a kimono the proper way. They even gave us the traditional Japanese socks to wear. Arigato gozaimasu!
I'd sprained my ankle during my trip and the staff at the guest house gave me a towel, ice pack and some medical plasters and were checking on me regularly to see how I am and if I needed anything. I felt taken care of and safe staying there. I would come...
Read moreWe had a delightful stay here. Our previous hotel called and let the owners know when we were arriving. The owner met us at the train station. The train station in Yudanaka is small and easy to meet up at. The town is small but we greatly appreciated the ride since we had luggage and the ryokan is up a small hill about 10 minutes away walking. Our room was very nice and the property is lovely. The onsen is wonderful, especially the part outside. The onsen switches from male to female so be sure to watch the schedule and follow the rules. The rooms have toilets and are quite large but the only showers are in the onsen. We had a room with two small beds but they also have more traditional tatami rooms. We arranged for dinner one night and two breakfasts. The food was incredible, but pace yourself because there's a lot of it and it keeps getting better. We don't speak any Japanese but had no trouble communicating with our hosts. They were very helpful and had lots of maps, train tables, directions, and lists of restaurants. We came to see the snow monkeys, but sadly there were none the days we were there so we went to Obuse instead. Our hosts were able to call to the park to find out about the monkeys. My husband walked up to the park anyways. It took him about an hour at a leisurely pace and he said it was quite nice. The owners will drive you if you'd like. We will...
Read moreI love my stay in this Ryokan, it's one of the first in the area which dates back to the sevent century. It's a family owned Ryokan thus when you stay here, you feel very at home. A nice cold towel and little souvenir was given upon our check in. There's a small receiving and reception area. An indoor and outdoor onsen, I personally like the outdoor onsen as it gives a feel of being in a nature. The inn also have a nice Japanese garden where you can ralax. ||The room is spacious, it has a seperate living area in Japanese style and the bedroom has a normal beds. Tea set with hot water and complimentary tea is served inside the room, air conditioning and electric fans are both available inside, there's Yukata for each guest. We all wore our's and tried on with matching wooden sleepers and walk around outside. You can basically wear the Yukata here even outside, I guess each hotel in different areas have their own rules for and when to wear one.||We pre ordered breakfast and it's absolutely good and plenty, Japanese style but with scrambled eggs and bacon option, your choose of either rice or bread. Afterwards, the owner drove us to the snow monkey park which is around 10-15 mins away from the Inn. Pick us up afte 1 1/2 hour and drove us to the train station without extra charge.||We absolutely love this Ryokan and the hospitality of the owners, will definitely recommend this property...
