I stayed at the Benex Hotel for one night in October 2013. I arrived in the evening and in the darkness of night the exterior looked newish and more impressive than some of the other Yonezawa hotels we passed along the way there.||||The lobby also seemed simple (and bright) but clean. Check-in was easy and quick and we went to our room.||||We had the largest room type available (ours was on the 5th floor). It was a typical Japanese business hotel interior. Wallpaper, small room, firm bed, single window, and an all-in-one bathroom (where it feels like a pre-packaged unit that was plopped into place in a corner of the hotel room in one piece).||||Although the room generally appeared clean on the surface, I noticed white stains (I have my assumptions about what this might be) on the bed skirt and some pealing wall paper. ||||We also opted to pay for the breakfast (I believe 800-yen per person) and had the option of western or Japanese style. We selected the western style and enjoyed a large breakfast of eggs, yogurt, fruit, toast, soup, salad, and unlimited use of the drink bar (juice, coffee, etc...)||||The room doesn't allow you to control the temperature so you're comfort is controlled by management. You can turn the blower on low to high, but we were there in October and the building was already running heat so we had to open the window all night to cool the place down. Luckily, it was cloudy during the day so the sun didn't make the room too hot. I can't imagine how hot the room would get on a sunny day.||||Generally, it was your standard Japanese business hotel (which means consistent mediocrity and nothing special). The reason for the low score is the value. With the breakfast, the room cost 13,700 yen (about $137). Yonezawa is a bit of an industrial town in the middle of the nowhere. There really was no reason why this "quality" of room in this location at this time of year should cost this much. ||||That sad thing is that my husband travels to this town frequently for business and said this is the nicest of the 4 different hotels he's tried in...
Read moreI grew up here and visited often, 12 years later I return and the hotel staff still remembers me. The food is exceptional and the room is small. But so what, it is a small Japanese hotel. The breakfast menu has not changed for over 16 years but why change amazingness. I have never tried the english meal but the japanese one is...
