It was our first ryokan stay and everything about Nihon no Ashitaba was PERFECT. Although I have studied a little about the ryokan and asked many questions upon reservation, they were kind and prompt to reply. The room(house) we stayed in for 2 nights was luxurious and the room had everything we had hoped for in traditional Japanese ryokan. The garden, outdoor and indoor onsen, living room, tatami room, bedding and so on. Dinner and breakfast were served thoughtfully and every dish was exquisite. Also the menu changed every day. The male server(possibly manager) - whom I forgot his name - was so kind and professional, made our dining experience far more special and enjoyable. He recommended us his favorite sake and we loved it so much. Bar Barolo was whole other experience that we didn't expect and it was a good one. Wine, whiskey, cocktail and cigar, even bar it self, all amazing. We were lucky to have a bartender of our nationality on the first day and communicated with the owner of the bar via 'google translate' on the second day, the small talk was very enjoyable on both days. All in all, our first ryokan experience became the best one and would love to stay again, hopefully a day or two...
Read moreAs we arrived and got out of the car, we already smelled the nice wood burning scent. The front reception was neatly decorated and soft music was played. Brought us to complete zen immediately. We were arranged to stay at the room Kan. Although the room was not large, but it has its characteristics just like other larger rooms. The 5 small private onsens were cozy and nicely designed. The big private onsen overlooking the mountain was the greatest. Be prepared for wow, wow, wow and wows as you are observing the details of the resort. Food at the resort were amazing. Dinner was food made with local produces. Breakfast was also served with plenty tasty and good choices food. All staff were friendly and helpful. Our main serve person Fujita-sen was so friendly and helpful. With this resort, I have to say it’s the overall experience that is so unique. So many wow factors that I would definitely go back. The hotel offers very high value for money that I would...
Read moreThis is our third stay at this cozy and tranquil onsen resort as our first time was over twenty years ago, this place has maintained its beauty and zen and the rooms are well maintained. Staff is very friendly as usual and we were served by a young lady from Hiroshima at the dinner place and her service was attentive and super polite as other staff. The food is excellent. The only area for improvement maybe the shower in our room (雪行廊) was a bit weak and water may not be sufficiently hot (only warm), and that WiFi coverage in the resort can be better. Other than that we had a great time as usual and tried the 8 public onsens along with the onsen in room. We will be back as it is always a great and peaceful...
