Been here twice now. Once in 2012, once in January 2017. Just as nice as I remember. The water temperature seems to be just right all the time, but if you like it hotter or cooler it's very easy and quick to add water or whatever temperature you like. Some private bath require a little more patience and work to get the water|temp to your liking.||The heated table with blanket ( kotatsu ) is a nice touch too. |the view of the Yufuin's mountain is breathtaking. Make sure you request a room with a mountain view though, as some don't face the mountain. We timed it right ( got lucky) by checking in during the beginning of the seasons first significant snow. Perfect view, perfect water temp, snow falling ....try a little Yufuin produced Sake and it's heaven on earth. ||The staff is also very nice and helpful. This is a good blend of modern comfort and traditional Japanese Ryokan. ||Bring your own wine and Sake if you want to have exotic drinks like French wine or expensive Sake in the room , but if you drink outside use plastic wine glasses or wooden cups. These are easy to obtain in Japan and prevents accidents near the onsen. The hotel has wine and beer and sake, but mainly local stuff. Drink lots of water between baths too, it's easy to drink too much and get to hot in the onsen and not realize it. I say a glass of water per 20 minutes or so of soak time. If you do that you can safely drink and soak and enjoy awesome views...
Read moreMy partner and I spent a night at Yadoya Ohashi last weekend. Since Yufuin is such a popular tourist destination, we could not get seats on an earlier JR train from Hakata station, we only arrived at Yufuin near to 5pm. A quick phone call to Yadoya, and they sent a car to fetch us from the train station within 15 mins. Yadoya keeps strict timing for everything, from check in, dinner, breakfast to check out. When we checked in at 5:20pm, we were told that there are 2 slots for dinner, 6pm or 6:30pm. We practically had to rush to shower and change, before dinner. Breakfast was either at 8:30am or 9am. Check out is at 11am. So if you are looking for a relaxing stay, you either have to spend 2 nights at Yadoya, or find your way to Yufuin much earlier and get yourself check in by 3pm. The service and the accommodation were all great, our only complaint was we felt that we have been rushed through everything, and had to check out and leave the premise by 11am. The accommodation does not come with black-out curtains, so forget about a lie in. It was so bright before 6am, that we...
Read moreThe property offers the most serene landscape, whether its the view of the mountains from your private room or their Koi-stocked Japanese pond. The peacefulness that is hard to find can be relished here with full WiFi because let's face it we're not cave dwellers and are social creatures at heart. Each room is replete with its own hot spring fed cement pool and that extends to the hot water or cold water being fed into said pool; and it extends to your shower or Japanese bath. You would be remiss not to stay at this Onsen while in Yufu. The staff is gracious and speak English. Their front desk manager, who is extremely hospitable, can make arrangements for private tours of the entire vicinity at whatever your budget may be. The complimentary Kaiseki dinners and lunches are out of this world both in terms of creation and presentation, and you will not leave the table hungary. On offer is their myriad of Sake selections from the region with which one must indulge while here. Again a quintessentially serene property with the most gorgeous views straight out...
