As only positive reviews were found about Petra Nights Hotel, we put our trust in the rating system and booked a room for one night with them. We were happy to see that there was a last minute discount, as well, however if we would know that was a misslead, we would rather pay more for a proper room elsewhere. We reached the property at midnight. Unfortunately the room was not even close to the pictures and reviews what was mentioned on your website. First of all, we were informed by the front desk staff named Ibrahim that our request for a double bed could not be accommodated as they were fully booked and had no other rooms available, therefore they never replied to our request, what we accepted. However we were escorted to the forth flour by another staff, later on we got to know that he was the owner of the property. He led us to the dark restaurant from the elevator and pointed at a door in the back and told us that our room number was 403 and wished us a good stay and left. We passed the door and to our shock we found a broken staircase leading to the attic of the building. Since we were very tired after coming from a long hike and that they already mentioned that they had no other rooms, we continued to see the room. After entering a filthy, dark corridor, we found the small door with our room number. The room was advertised to be 34 m2, however we entered to an approximately 15 M2, dark room. The smell of the room was already awful, it smelled strongly like tobacco, which for a non-smoker was already a disappointment. The furniture was out worn, old and mostly damaged, the walls had a bit of mold. The toilet was almost touching the walls both sides and it was visibly broken. The shower was tiny, water lines were not connected to the tap, did not have a door or curtain and was really close to the toilet. Mold was around the bathroom. There was no hot water, only luke warmish, and the next day, only ice cold. The toilet was not flushing properly and was observed to be blocked... The temperature in the room was difficult to be controlled, because it was either too warm or too cold. There were mosquitos around the room and it was almost impossible to sleep, as there were just too many. There were no plug ins around the bed. Since all this happened in the middle of the night and we were really tired, also knowing that it was high season and would not be possible to find another hotel, we stayed. However in normal case, we would never book in such a filthy property. I am in a state of shock that the mentioned hotel stated to be a four star hotel in your website! As a frequent traveler, i would not even give one star for the same. The next day, we tried to talk to the front desk staff about our experience, when she mentioned that she cannot do anything for us, and suggested that we should not accept the room the previous night. She also added that this issue is often and blamed her colleague named Ibrahim. She mentioned that as today was weekend, all the managers were on holiday, so she could not inform anyone about our issue or to provide a service recovery. When we were leaving a couple approached us and mentioned that they had the exact same experience.
As an update: we were contacted privately from the property and offered 50% refund if all our reviews were deleted. As I refused to delete, no further communication was received from...
Read moreStaying at this hotel in the middle of Petra was one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel! That's why we stayed for one night instead of the booked two nights. We quickly got used to the fact that western travelers have to make some compromises when it comes to accommodation in Jordan. Nevertheless, there are decent and miserable accommodations in this price range. Petra Nights Hotel was one of the worst ones, in our experience. And on many levels. It starts with the location and doesn't stop with the local management. The hotel is located "in the middle" of Petra, which wouldn't necessarily be bad, but the road directly in front of the hotel is a main road and accordingly busy. In addition, the road is at a rather steep incline and there is a large gas station right next to the hotel. This means traffic noise can be heard 24 hours a day in the hotel rooms, as noise isolation in the street-facing rooms is next to non-existent. We were allowed to get to know three rooms in one night. Most of them face the street, and it sounds in the room as if the sometimes quite loud vehicles, including many trucks, drive practically directly through the room. They are sometimes particularly loud on the road due to the incline. But even on the side facing away from the street, it's still pretty loud, partly because of the gas station, partly because of the noise reflection.||Other: I don't necessarily need a TV in the room on a trip like this, but if it's there it should work. Didn't. Even the technician couldn't fix it. The telephone in the room, which you could use to contact reception, for example, was not even plugged in, as we found out. This was perhaps also due to the fact that no cable socket could be found in the room, not even by the house technician, with whom the device could have been connected. That's not necessarily a bad thing at first, but when you have to walk down four floors to the reception and then back up again for every little thing, of which there were many, it becomes uncomfortable after a short time.||Bottled drinking water, two small bottles free of charge, which we found in almost every other accommodation upon arrival, certainly did not exist in our room.||The manager, who didn't identify himself as such when I first spoke to him, seemed not very interested in all of this. I only found out from the friendly, helpful receptionist that it was the manager I had spoken to after the manager walked past me shortly after my initial contact with him; and his statement that he wanted to take care of things and then disappeared for the day, was anything but encouraging.||Oh yes: when we checked in in the late afternoon, after having been put off on arrival in the morning because the room was not yet available, the room we were initially assigned was still not made up. The bed was obviously unmade after the previous guests had left. After 10 minutes we were then assigned another room.||I could go on and on, but I think that's enough to give you an idea of how things are handled there ...||If you can, avoid...
Read moreWe made a reservation via Booking that was supposed to be paid when we arrive. ||So...on the arranged day we went there and the hotel receptionist said that they cancelled our reservation because of an invalid credit card. That was really strange, because usually if there is any kind of problem with the card we always receive a message by Booking, but not this time. Anyway, they said that there is no free rooms (we were 5ppl) but they will try to help us because the whole town is fully booked. So they said that they found a place of the same price and the same conditions and gave us the address. We went there..it was actually a hostel...the owner didnt speak any English, but however we managed to explain him the situation. He said that they have only one free room for 4ppl. (that was not true as we understood later) and wanted to charge us more than the other price. It was already 8 pm so we decided that we will handle it and will stay there.. but entering to the bathroom it turned out that there was no running water. So we chose to search for another option and at the end of the day we paid 4 times more than we expected. ||But that was not the worst. The next day we received a phone call by Booking saying that Petra by night hotel wants to charge us because of "No Show". How is it possible to charge me for "No Show" when you explained that the reservation is cancelled because of invalid credit card? Luckily, Booking helped us. ||So dont even spend your time looking...
