As a celebration of our double birthday, my husband and I decided to spend a day in the city and chose Grushevy Boutique Hotel for it. The location is perfect - it's right in the heart of Compote district of Almaty. The room was nice (fresh linens and modern design) overall with an exception of poorly lit bathroom and unreliable satellite service. The sauna was soothing and they give 50% off to their guests. However, the terrible part began when we went to sleep. At 2 am, the first group of loud and inebriated guests rolled in... Sound insulation is poor at the hotel (the owners economized on construction materials and didn't install sound-proof doors, plus the floors are tiled and all the ladies of the night invited by the male guests of the hotel seemed to be wearing stiletto heels with metal tips. They don't provide some basic training to their staff. I was hopeful in the beginning when learning about this boutique hotel (there aren't very many of them in Almaty), BUT no matter how nice the design is, at the end of the day clients get impressed not with linens and mosaic in their spa, but with customer care and service, which is totally lacking...

The staff is very friendly, speaks English and always ready to assist you. Breakfast timings are 8 till 10 - but the staff asked me if I am planning to have breakfast then they will prepare for me at 6am as I was leaving early for the airport. The hotel arranged a very cheap taxi for the airport which cost only 1200kzt. Free WiFi available in the room.
No phone set in the room; each time I need to go downstairs to talk to...
