Beautiful location . Amazing staff However, we were asked to pay extra 500shs each for a very standard full English breakfast . This was a shock as we had paid for bed and breakfast. There were no additional items other than a few slices of avocado! The rest were pretty standard . Breakfast options are very poor, such as a smoothie vegan option and avocado on toast! If you are allergic to mint and avocado like I am, then you are stuck. When we complained to the "assistant to the director," as Larissa introduced herself, we were met with a very cold response. Larissa admitted that they are charging people staying in the beach bungalow more for full English breakfast . Larissa further confirmed to us that some of the staff are not " trained " as they are new and growing. We found Larissa to be cold and out of her depth in terms of dealing with complaints. Unfortunately, her boss, Mark, who appeared very distracted , was not any better . He didn't bother to greet us when they appeared together in the morning even though he would have been made aware by his assistant Larissa thar we were unhappy with being over charged and not being given appropriate breakfast options.

This place is suited to young backpacking people. If you are used to a more adult middle ground environment such as EP or SaN, then please don't come here . If you are used to owners who are interactive and hands-on managers, unlike Larissa, then please don't come here as you will be disappointed as we were. We have been coming to Diani for years, and this was a first for us. Thankfully, we were booked here for only two nights . I would not recommend this place to anyone who likes class...

... Galu Ecolodge - Madafoos Beach Bar and Restaurant Galu Beach Diani just updated our new cocktail & food menu 🌱 🌴🍹...

💭 This spot’s got all the goods — from juicy smash burgers to toasted sandwiches (with homemade crinkle crisps 🤤) and of course, all the coffees and cocktails you could ever need.

The restaurant sits right on the beach — a nature’s embrace of sunlight, sea breeze, and serenity. The kind of place where you can brunch with friends, sip something cold at sunset, or even catch up on work with the great Indian Ocean as your backdrop 🌊☀️

Here’s what I tried:

🥗 Buddha Bowl – a colorful mix of veggies, quinoa, falafel, avocado, and creamy tahini dressing! (My only note: make it a little more filling 😅)

Grateful to the management for letting us shoot our Pwani Viungo Podcast 🎙️ on location here. They’re open to non-resident walk-ins too, so swing by next time you’re in Galu!

Coming up next on Pwani Viungo – That Coastal Spice 🫶🏾: She’s one of Kenya’s reggae queens, her voice echoing across the continent — Cathy Matete joins us for a soulful conversession blending music, life, and self-discovery.

We recently stayed at Galu Ecolodge, and it was such a pleasant surprise. This beachfront property is truly a hidden gem ,perfect for a relaxing getaway. The location is unbeatable, right on a beautiful stretch of beach that's clean, quiet, private and ideal for families or couples looking to unwind. The rooms are spacious, clean, and thoughtfully designed. You can tell there's been a lot of care put into the renovations since the new management took over, everything feels fresh, and you can see ongoing improvements without it being disruptive. It's nice to see a place being actively maintained and upgraded. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcomed. They go out of their way to make your stay comfortable without being overbearing. One of the biggest highlights was the food . It was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced! Every meal felt like great value, and we found ourselves looking forward to each one. Whether it was a simple breakfast or a seafood dinner, everything was spot-on. It's also a very kid-friendly place, with plenty of space for little ones to run around safely. And a play ground was just added . Whether you're traveling with family or just want a peaceful place by the sea, Galu Ecolodge ticks all the right boxes. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to return!

This place is beautiful and well maintained. Yes it's somewhat far from the centre of Diani where there is highlife and lots of hustle and bustle, but that is was exactly what we were after. A quiet, calm and serene place to get some well deserved rest. You could tell through subtle gestures and small details that the management/ownership are very keen on giving the clients the best experience possible. This did not go unnoticed and we highly appreciated it. The professional nature in the way they handle all their clients (local and foreign) is admirable and very welcoming. The restaurant was of a high standard, with almost all meals we had being very well prepared and tasty. An addition of further local and regional dishes in future would be highly appreciated. From a very personal point of view, there are minor structural and design deficits, especially with regards to their "ndogo" and "annex" rooms. However, I got the feeling that these are issues that are already known and are being worked on. So I am looking forward to check on the progress with our next visit.
