Hotel Vilhelmine — Hotel in Liepaja

Maybe I caught the hotel on a bad day? Maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe all the other reviews have been written by friends of the owners? But my experience of the Hotel Vilhelmine was rather different to the other reviewers.||||First, the rooms were rather grubby. The dust in the air vent in the bathroom was years thick. The lamps, cupboard shelves etc. were similarly covered in dust. I was particularly amazed at the fact that the cover sheet for the mattress did not fit the bed - it was too short. There was a good 5-10cm. of exposed mattress at the head of the bed. Urgh! Hardly conducive to a good nights sleep. I pulled the sheet up so that the feet part of the bed was exposed to the mattress. But this is pretty terrible housekeeping - the sheet has to fit the bed! The shower was also broken...||||Breakfast was a little worse than I had expected after experiencing the room. Some strange baked beans with chopped up raw onions in the sauce (!?!), fried eggs that had been cooked hours earlier, sweet buns that had been chopped into tiny pieces (to stretch out the portions?), a coffee machine no longer fit for purpose (it offered to make me a "smell" coffee) and so on.||||The plus side is that all the staff were very nice indeed. And the location is good - all the sights, restaurants, museums etc. are in walking distance. But everything to do with the rooms and the breakfast needs to be...
