Chose the Stabu Seta for its location as our usual hotel has now been turned into apartments. Check-in was good other than our room had not been made up so we left our luggage in our friends room and headed out to meet other friends staying in a different hotel a couple of streets away for drinks and dinner. The receptionist was extremely apologetic but we were not concerned about the mistake.|It’s a charming old-style hotel with a lovely little courtyard between the two buildings with tables and chairs for passing the time and a beautiful, tiled staircase.|Our room (54) was a good size for the two us with plenty of storage space although I wish I had brought some extra hangers from home but we managed. There were 2 large single quilts on the double bed which was great as my husband prefers to sleep on top of the covers during summer but I do like a little bit of cover. The bed was super comfortable and I slept very well during our stay which is unusual for me. The bathroom is large with a shower over the bath and shower gel and hand soap is provided in dispensers over the bath and above the sink. The towels were a good size and nice and soft. The bedrooms are in corridors separated from the main stairwell/lifts by doors so the rooms are super quiet at night – we didn’t hear a thing and the windows overlooking the road outside are well sound-proofed so very little road noise.| There is, unfortunately., no air-conditioning at all in the hotel and being at the front our room had the sun shining on it most of the day but there was a tall fan in the room and I took my small usb fan which I placed on the bedside table so we were not too hot during the night. There is a fridge in the room but no tea and coffee making facilities which I think is a major mistake (see below). | The hotel website states free tea and coffee is available in Reception but unfortunately the machine was very small and most times I wanted to grab a coffee, particularly over the weekend, the machine was either out of water, out of beans or there were no cardboard cups. The hotel should either provide a larger machine and ensure it is well stocked or provide kettles in the rooms. This was my only negative, everything else though was great, especially the buffet breakfast in what would have been the cellar years ago – a great choice of hot and cold food, different varieties of cereal, fruit and breads and two coffee machines!|The hotel doesn’t have a bar but there is a lovely little cellar bar next door which was charming and stocked a good range of local and international drinks.|We visit Riga regularly and would certainly stay in this...
Read moreAt first, the room was really small, it could be for one person instead of 2. I was surprised there was no water bottle in the room, just 2 glasses. When we first came into our room, I could see some dust on the floor. I always like to check the room's cleanness, so I was very surprised that behind the tv and on the light bulb there was, well I could say, a thick layer of dust (photos added). And there is no air conditioner Second thing, that I really was disappointed of the staff, well for one girl that work there (red hair, red glasses). At first I thought both girls are really polite and offered to help, if something was wrong. In the morning we went for breakfast and both coffee machines needed to be emptied out. Because there was no staff in the basement (there is a breakfast area), I went to front desk for some help. At first this girl didn't understand what I was asking, and then when she did, she said (in arrogant way) that it's not her job to do, it's the kitchen's staff job. I think in this situation, she should find herself kitchen staff, and tell that I need some help. It wasn't very pleasant to look in the kitchen. And for the food. It feels very cheap and unfortunately I made a mistake, that I ordered breakfast in the morning. I ate some pancakes that were really dry (I don't understand, how you make them that way), my husband ate scrambled eggs, which were flavourless. Fruits were not really fresh. The only good thing is that there was lactose free milk choice. And while we were eating only one person in the kitchen was working, so if she did all the food by herself, well... That means you should hire one more person. In conclusion, you guys should do a better job for 3star hotel. The location is great, the building is nice, but in the inside it feels...
Read moreMy second visit to this charming hotel, this time a 5 night ladies-only long weekend trip for Latvia’s longest day celebrations. I stayed in room 37 and although I booked a single room I was very pleased to have a double bed and a nice size bathroom with an obviously very new corner shower unit. The bed was very comfortable with adequate bedding and as the room was really a double I had double the amount of towels. There was a handheld hairdryer hanging from a towel hook in the bathroom but I did take my own. There was a floor standing fan in the room but it was difficult to plug in anywhere near the bed due to the location of the sockets but I did bring my own small fan which I put on the bedside table, a flat screen TV and a good size fridge. Unfortunately there is no kettle or coffee making facilities in the room but as this was my second visit I brought my own travel kettle and supplies.||We all paid in advance for breakfast which is served in a very nice breakfast room in the basement and offers the choice of plenty of hot and cold food, cheese, pastries, assorted teas, fruit and fruit juices. ||The free coffee machine in the reception was kept well stocked this year (unlike last year when it was always either out of cups, water or beans). The Reception staff we dealt with were all super friendly and spoke very good English. The external courtyard has had a bit of a makeover this year and was a great spot to sit either before breakfast or last thing at night waiting for friends.||I would definitely recommend this hotel for it’s charming rooms, great location just a 15 minute walk from the old town and...
