My prescription glasses went missing in my hotel room on 16 Feb when I stayed in K hotel (14-17 Feb 2024). Like others who have experienced theft, it is upsetting to have one’s personal space being violated and to lose one’s personal belonging. But what was most upsetting was the lack of professionalism by the hotel staff. They didn’t show any concern or offer any assistance when I first reported the theft. Instead they lied to me on a few occasions. In response to my request to speak to the absent manager, the receptionist gave me an alleged number of his that didn’t work. And despite leaving my contact number with the receptionist with specific instructions for him to call me upon his arrival at the hotel on 17 Feb, he didn’t; instead the receptionist claimed that he had waited for me to return to the hotel on that day which didn’t make sense because of my earlier message. When the manager finally called me on 19 Feb, he claimed that he had called me on 17 Feb but he couldn’t reach me. But my phone didn’t show any missing calls on that day. These are some of the inconsistent statements they had provided. There are more, including from a housekeeping staff. The CCTV camera outside my room didn’t capture everything in my room, especially the areas around the desk where my glasses was kept. There were several blind spots in the video. Though the CCTV showed that the hotel housekeeping staff were the only people to enter my room on 16 Feb, the hotel manager insisted that the housekeeping staff wouldn’t have entered my room if I didn’t give them consent to enter my room on that day. What! This is just one of the many examples of the awful treatment I had received. But the hotel manager did offer a brief apology on 21 Feb when I told him that it was not my intention to seek compensation for the theft from the hotel. I knew it was a lost cause. So if you, for whatever reason, choose to stay in this hotel, please...
