Read moreThis old hotel has finally gotten a much needed face lift after many many years. Likely will make the rest of Kundasang's mushrooming private Airbnb and homestays a run for their money! The rooms are now very tastefully furnished with modern furniture and beddings. Very clean and very comfortable. Of course the view is unbelievably gorgeous and awesome. Best to ask for a room facing Mt Kinabalu (with additional charge to normal room rate). There are also 2 restaurants in the hotel now. The cosy cafe and the main dining area. The cafe has decent set lunches that's value for money. While the main dining area seems to cater for breakfast buffet (and perhaps lunch and dinner functions as well). I had no problems with the cafe food, however the breakfast buffet was very dismal and disappointing for RM25 per head. Tastewise the dishes were quite off--either under seasoned, or too spicy, or not enough sugar in the pancake waffle. Their tea at the drinks station was also very diluted (not strong enough). Luckily their fruits were fresh and sweet. I hope the management will improve on this as the hotel clearly has many foreign tourists (saw a busload of Koreans) and locals as well. On a positive note, their staff are very polite, very helpful and easy to deal with. Very happy with their service (thank you front desk and housekeeping!). Other than the breakfast buffet needing huge improvements, this hotel is wonderful and real value for money. Highly recommended. My family and I will definitely come back again. P/s recommended to take the suite for large families. They can accomodate up to 2 extra beds, and in the room there's also a sofa bed. But you might need to bring your own blanket if you need to. Otherwise, just enquire if the hotel can provide beddings for the sofa bed (blanket and pillows) with or without extra charges. The hotel is having a promotion right now (room with breakfast included), until end of 2024. Worth...
Read moreHotel has been apparently ongoing renovation for several years and this is still in progress. I guess the place may have been better several years ago but is currently barely acceptable and I’m sure there are better options around.||For some bizarre reason you can’t get an alcoholic drink in the hotel but can in their cafe just outside on the same plot. This is open with chairs outside so either way a quick beer and some crisps will have you headed back inside for insect bite relief asap.||Our room (706) had no a/c just a noisy fan which was on or off. The bed was rock hard, duvet too small for the bed so a pretty uncomfortable night. View from the room and hotel is the only good thing about the place. I think they know it and don’t seem to care about anything else.||The food was dire. I understood they had a party taking over the restaurant area and they offered us the same buffet if we sat outside so we were game. However the buffet was stone cold and inedible. We then ordered a couple of western staples thinking this might be a safer option as the kitchen was busy doing mass catering……how wrong we were. After over an hour waiting on a burger and chicken club sandwich we couldn’t even tell what was which when they arrived. Even the chips were cold. We gave up and went to bed.||Bathroom needed a good session with mould remover and my first interaction with the shower said it all really, the shower tap fell off the wall when I went to turn it on.||Breakfast was equally poor. We like SE Asian food but this was just rank. Cold, sat around for ages and visually really unappealing. We had a coffee and left...
