This place can barely be called a hotel or resort in any sense of the word. The staff try very hard and are the only saving grace but it's definitely not what you would expect.
I booked this because it was close to a wedding I was attending and because it had a pool for my kids. The pool, was dirty and had slime at the bottom, revealing how it had not been cleaned in a while.
The family room they initially gave us, was right next to the road - room 201, forget getting any sleep especially on a weekend. The windows barely close enough to keep out the noise. The TV is there but you get blurry, fuzzy TV1 or TV3, which is ok. But nothing to keep the kids entertained.
The next day, when I asked for a standard room (due to the noise), which faces the pool - magically the staff give us room 202, which faces the pool and is quieter. I don't know why they didn't just give us this room in the first place!
There are no lifts, so be prepared if you have bags and kids or old people who can't climb the stairs.
The rooms also have a mosquito issue at night and the mattresses are hard for some reason.
Not only is there noise from the road, the noise made by your neighbour's are highly obvious and will disturb your sleep due to the thin walls and the way hallway outside is configured.
The location is the only saving grace as it's in air Itam but I would rather stay further away in future...

Book via Agoda. Smooth checked in. The receptionist was a very nice lady. They even called us before checked in since we were an hour late. Deposit RM50 as usual. They advised us to take additional mattress for RM30 (we were many). We took it. Had a good night. No lift. Need to climb stairs up to room in level 2. Because we read the reviews earlier, so we packed everything in backpack 🎒.
Easy to park inside the resort area.
The room was clean. The bathroom with bathtub also clean and in good working condition. Basic room amenities were provided. Had cold and hot water. No Monday blues (we were here till Monday).
Kids having fun at swimming pool. Not crowded at all and well maintained. Closed at 7 pm. Must wear swimsuit. If you forgot to bring one for kid, I recommend you Whatsapp this number +60104562389 (business contact), and pickup at the location given (for a cheap but good quality swimsuit). They were very kind and helpful.
Overall, we had a great experience here. Definitely worth our trip here. Surely will come here again and hope they keep maintaining the place.
There was a dog wandering around but he won't bother any guest. Not an...
Read moreI think a few reviewers are mixing this hotel up with another (there is a lone pine hotel also on Penang - mentions of beach etc.). This is the one at Air Itam, which is near Kek Lok temple and Penang Hill. It is in a residential area. Supermarket opposite in one direction, and McD in the other (over the road). The hotel has a good outdoor pool and the room was fine, fairly basic but clean, with small balcony, comfy beds, and quiet at night. Goh Pek Mooi on reception was lovely, very helpful, brought us towels for a swim and very knowledgeable about the local area. You can get a bus from outside the hotel to the temple, and Air Itam itself is untouristy, good for local food. We didn't bother with Penang hill after hearing bad reviews, but the temple was outstanding. The hotel seemed very empty when we were there, but has a wonderful staircase (which you have to use to get to the rooms on 2nd floor as don't think there is a lift) Its about a 20 minute drive to the airport. I would recommend it for what we were doing (seeing the temple, wanting to be in a different place in penang after doing Georgetown and the National Park) but it isn't a...
