Read about this place on social media and decided to give it a try as I was around the area having lunch. Visited on a weekday afternoon and the place didn't have many seats and it was quite crowded, I stood in front of the shop waiting to take my order. Strangely enough the moment I got my food all the customers in the shop left and I had the place all to myself! Ordered the beancurd and had a switch to choose the beautifully colored butterfly pea sugar syrup. They have the usual ones, the original, gula melaka and ginger syrup but I wanted to give a special colour to the beancurd. Oh they also had a Chrysanthemum syrup which looks interesting and probably not the colour but the flavour is pretty worth checking it out. The syrup wasn't too sweet which was good, but the thing that wowed me was definitely how smooth and silky the beancurd was and I would easily say this is one of the best beancurd I have ever tried. The smoothness is really so ridiculous that you don't actually feel it on your tongue and it just slides down into the throat. Also had the black soya bean which was also not sweet. As the lady was telling me, it is freshly made so do not have it under the sun too long and try to finish it by the end of the day. It's a good find and definitely highly recommended and this is the place I will visit again when am...
Read moreWoong Kee is a dessert shop in George Town. Their specialty is douhua, which in English is known as tofu pudding. This is a satellite location of the original shop in Ipoh. The menu is simple, but has many options to customize. There are two pudding sizes to choose from, which are by the bowl or the container. For each pudding, you choose one type of sugar from a list of 7. There are also numerous toppings available like red bean, grass jelly and rice balls. The shop also sells fresh soymilk with an eclectic list of flavors including blue flower, carrot and dragon fruit.
Opted for a bowl of tofu pudding with blue flower sugar (RM 2.50). I believe blue flower being the same thing as butterfly pea flower, which adds blue coloring to dishes. Ate my dessert there as they have counter seating in back of where the tofu pudding is being served. The tofu pudding was great because it was freshly made, though the blue flower sugar did not add much sweetness and I would have preferred the tofu to be colder. Nevertheless, I would recommend this spot if you are looking for a dessert place in Penang...

The shop was extremely generous because we arrived forgetting to take out cash and the closest ATM was about a 10 minute walk. As we were waiting for our Grab ride to Auntie Gaik Lean's Old School Eatery, the owners gifted us a serving of tofu and a soybean milk to go.
We insisted on getting their contact so we can transfer funds later on, but they wouldn't take our money. It was an amazing show of generosity and good karma.
Aside from their generous heart, their tofu was beautiful and their soybean milk brought me back to my...
