Dear Mr Jef Kong,The reason I'm writing to you is to share my experience in your renowned hotel Ramada Meridin Johor Bahru. I recently had a 3 days 2 night stay at your hotel. I should say the receptionist on my checking in was polite and understood our needs and allow us to have an early check in with an additional cost which is fine with us. Upon entering our room, we were very impressed with the size of our room which is the premium suite east and it was good enough for my family of 4. Everything was in order as it looks. Came in the evening that's where some issues arised. My kids room, the Aircon was hot not cold. The phone was unusable for us to make the call to the maintenance nor the front desk .The WiFi was not working at all dispite there's network available. I have to use my hot spot for my kids to watch netflix. I have to go all the way down to the front desk to seek for help with the Aircon. Upon the reaching at the lobby. I approached one of the receptionist. He was not very polite nor show interest in communicating with me. Looking at his uninterested looks, I just told him I need help with my Aircon and here's my room number. His reply...' ah okay....I ask them to go check'...there was no greetings, no apology, no nothing. I wasn't sure of he will get someone to fix it but the maintenance guy came after half an hour later. He came check and I could see that the problem is that there's no gas in the aircon. So he got some gas from his trolley and top us. After that, all good but the room was still not as cold as I expected but was better than the begining. Day 1 was as above....Day 2All went well for breakfast. We went back to the room and get ourself ready for Legoland. We were a bit late for the shuttle bus. We came down and asked if there's any shuttle bus to Legoland but the receptionist told us we missed it as it was at 10.15am and if we want we have to get Grab ourself. Ok....as a 4star hotel and closed to Legoland, you only have 1 timing for the shuttle bus? Hmmm.....I don't know. Now the unacceptable excuses that I received from the housekeeping when we came back to our room after our Legoland trip, our room was still messy eventhou we switch the clean room button. This time my wife wasn't happy and immediately went downstairs to the receptionist and complaint. We could have just make a phone call but as mentioned the phone was not usable. The receptionist told her that maybe we didn't press the clean room hence the reason they didnt clean but we actually did that. My wife also complained about the phone not usable. Few mins later the maintenance guys came up and check. Indeed the phone was not usable and so is the wifi . They opened up the box just above the kitchen sink and found out all the line was off and asked if we are ok to have the TV off for a while while they fix it. I said ok. After that touch, my WiFi and the phone was usable. Said thank you to them and they left. Few minutes later we had a bell a continuous bell that seems unhappy at the door. It was the house keeping. First thing he saw me he bluntly told me " you put on DND that why we didn't clean.." I stop him and said NO that is not true. It was on Clean Room sign. He came in with another lady to clean the room and threw all the rubbish. I can tell you Mr Jef they were not happy in doing the job. My sink was still dirty with my unwashed coffee cups and glasses, my towels were not replaced and they left leaving behind their cleaning equipment. I took it and left it outside our room. (Picture as attached) That's the overall experience of me and my family stay at your hotel. I doubt I want to come back to stay at your hotel again. I'm not threatening you but just sharing my unhappiness with the whole thing. I expect it to be a good stay but I was wrong and it's a...
Read moreDisappointment at Ramada Hotel: An honest and critical Look at “Hospitality”
First impressions can be deceiving, and this hotel is a master of the bait-and-switch. Walk in, and it feels like you’re stepping into comfort—until you open the door to your room. Oh, the aroma! Imagine the fragrant mix of stale water, damp fishing nets, and a hint of mildew—a scent so deeply ingrained, it seeped into the bed itself. Sweet dreams? Hardly. You might as well have pitched a tent on a forgotten, decaying shoreline.
Now, let’s talk about something more important: the prayer facilities. After all, this is Malaysia—a proudly Muslim-majority country that loves to highlight its devotion to religious inclusivity. Except, it seems this hotel didn’t get the memo. Want to offer your Salah? Good luck navigating the obstacle course. The prayer room, or should I say “afterthought,” is tucked far away from the main building, past the swimming pool. And what a walk it is! Prepare to dodge half-dressed swimmers flaunting themselves poolside before reaching your destination. Classy, isn’t it?
The prayer room itself? A joke. The shoe rack doubles as a Quran stand—yes, you read that right. Shoes and holy books, side by side, because nothing says respect like that pairing. Inside, you’re greeted with a cramped box of hard tiles, surrounded by the symphony of people spitting and washing their feet in the nearby wudu area. And the pièce de résistance? A filthy black mop sitting ominously nearby, as if waiting to bless your clothes with its fragrance. Add in the standing wudu setup, where water splashes everywhere, and you’re left drenched in a mix of dirty mop water and leftover grime.
To ensure your prayer experience feels as uninspired as possible, there’s even a garbage bag taped to the window—perhaps an artistic touch to remind you this room wasn’t in the hotel’s plans, but merely a last-minute checkbox for “compliance.”
Contrast this with the hotel’s treatment of Christmas decorations. Half the front office is a winter wonderland, sparkling and sprawling over an area four times the size of the prayer room. There’s no subtlety here: the hotel is catering unapologetically to non-Muslims. I have no issue with accommodating all faiths, but in a Muslim country, shouldn’t the prayer facilities receive at least equal respect?
This experience was more than disappointing—it was insulting. For a hotel operating in a country that prides itself on being a global hub for Islamic tourism, this was an outright embarrassment. Ramada Hotel, perhaps your management team should spend less time fluffing Christmas trees and at least equal time and space reflecting on the values this nation stands for.

Read moreStayed for 5D4N and it was a nightmare! An experience we never want to experience again! Booked through Agoda, requested for big/double bed not twin bed, high floor and complimentary decor fot Happy Anniversary as were celebrating our 10th on the same week. We're there for our daughter school break, we're going to Legoland.
We were given the opposite, twin bed, low floor and no decor. No complimentary decor is fine but the double/big bed and high floor? Their hotel is close to empty! We checked in late so didn't get to request to change the room. My daughter hurts her back as she sleeps in the middle. So, I called reception the next day, they apologised, said they didn't received the requests where it's clearly stated in my booking. Then they said they will prepare the room.
When we came down for bfast, they told me we have to pay extra for my 6-year old kid or I add extra bed?!! Like what?! I told them, when we checked in, we gave our passports and we weren't told about it at all. She asked me to go to the reception and talk to them instead. So I did, when I went down, I told the guy that I was the one who called earlier about the room and now here comes the issue with the bfast, I told them, this is just our first day and we are staying for 5D4N and we do not wish to encounter all these unnecessary things. Then, he apologised and told us, we can go up and have our bfast.
When were done and we went up to our room, I've got several emails from Agoda, saying that the requests was not received, that I shout at them (I didn't shout, I raised my voice as I am very upset but I didn't shout), that the bfast is addtl payment for the kid, etc. More than 5 emails from different people from agoda and I told them I won't be repeating myself to all of them. I told them, I thought it's already settled at the hotel? I told them to tell the hotel to do whatever they want, charge us the bfast for our daughter, and leave us alone! We came here expecting a good holiday but instead we get the opposite. Agoda aplogised and even gave us $20 USD credits which we don't need or ask for it. All we wanted is to give us peace! Terrible terrible experience and will never come back here not recommend to anyone!
And note: The room they changed for us, they made it like a big bed, but it is still 2 beds! What a shame that even a 2 star hotel has a...
