If you look at the website for this place the motto is: "RETREAT. RELAX. RESTORE." My wife and were looking for a smaller place where we could kick back and relax and were looking forward to reading our books by the pool sipping on a few drinks with a great view. This place has 12 rooms I believe and a great little pool area with a fantastic view. Believing the marketing that this is a great place to rest and relax we decided to make a reservation. ||||For the Pros: This place is beautiful, with fantastic landscaping and excellent rooms/bathrooms. The staff are very friendly and helpful(as are most folks in this area generally). There is a fantastic pool area with a fab view. ||||Cons: Upon checking in and heading down to the pool, there were six children in the very small pool/hot tub and running around the pool, yelling and screaming and splashing around. This was a daily occurrence from about 9-5 every day with the amount of children ranging from 4-10 kids at any time and they totally dominated the area around the pool basically making it impossible for any kind of relaxation. I get that is what kids do and should do. However at a wellness retreat for guests seeking rest and relaxation, it totally killed the experience for my wife and I. We later discovered that we were one of the few guests at this place without children. And in general this seemed like a very poor place for a child to be as there is little to do outside of the pool/hot tub area and there are a lot of hazards and dangers with the landscaping and pool. We had to go offsite for our R and R instead of being able to enjoy this place. ||||Another con would how noises and sounds from the road and neighboring properties reverberated in these rooms. I don't know the science as to why this happened as the place is far off the road and far from the neighboring properties, but cars with loud bass would be heard in our room with sound and vibrations. The same for dogs barking from nearby places. You could hear the kids screaming in the pool which was at least 100-200 feet or more away. Further, you can really hear what is going on in other rooms. I obviously don't expect any place to be totally soundproof, but this place seemed to really be on the poor side of things. ||||Conclusion: If you are looking for a family resort where your children can basically own the pool area, then this is your 5 star paradise. If you are actually looking for a wellness retreat involving rest and relaxation, then definitely...
Read moreNicest hotel in La Ventana / El Sargento. This was my fifth trip to learn kiting or wing foil in La Ventana…Happily this was also my first trip in which i was able to take long luxuriant hot showers with good volume and water pressure. |The hotel makes a huge effort to keep their massive water tanks full—trucking in water twice a week to supplement the meagre municipal water supply.||We stayed in the old part of the hotel, which despite the copious showers is built with a low-impact ideal. The newer part looks even better. We stayed in the closest bungalow to the sea, with astonishing, sweeping views over the ocean. Unfortunately the bed is placed facing the side wall, and there so you have to lean on your side to look out to sea, but when you do you are rewarded with a serene environment. (They did also build a couple of small buildings just in front of the hotel rooms. One is used for yoga classes, and unfortunately they are just about the exact same height as the bed, and only about 40 feet from the bed. The windows are floor to ceiling, so you really have to close the shades once the yoga starts very early ussually before 8am…||This was also the first pool i saw in la ventana that had truly clear water, a lot of dust is generally carried in the air here so they have the filters on and the water is clean and nice….I actually did not jump in the pool because just below it is the beautiful and inviting ocean.||I had delicious chilaquiles at the restaurant on campus. One day i purchased a papaya at the local organic grocery and had the kitchen cut it up and serve delicious perfectly ripe papaya that morning…i highly reccomend trying that…||It is often very cold in La Ventana at night so the AC is rarely needed but it is really nice to know it is there. Heating would also surprisingly be useful on some nights…||La Ventana has a very small local population—it is much more difficult then Cabo (2 hours away) to find the workers who do all of the very difficult jobs at a major hotel and the owner has done an amazing job getting and keeping everything working…||The newer part of the hotel looks amazing and I look forward to staying there on our next trip. If you are really looking for the most comfortable stay possible in La Ventana this...
Read moreCasa Tara is located in an isolated area, there is nothing around the hotel. So you're stuck there unless you arrange car service through the hotel to visit La Paz (40mins away).||The pool is very small, and if you're ok with kids and dogs running around, then you're fine. Not peaceful at all, which is what I thought their message is? 🤔 We wanted to visit the pool, but the dogs were at the pool, so we just stayed in our room. The dogs were also hanging inside the restaurant. I'm a dog person myself, but in a restaurant is so overdoing it! ||The restaurant is flooded with flies, alive and dead on the floor. I did notice for three days in a row, the same pieces of food were on the floor, so obviously they don't clean their floors daily.||The food is a solid 3 out of 5. The chef is very nice, and tried to accommodate as much as possible (we didn't know it was a vegan restaurant). ||The spa is cute, and the messages and facials we received were great! That honestly was the best part about staying there.||The office staff is not organized one bit. When we checked out, they basically wrote our total due on the back of a piece of paper, no itemized receipt. Soooo I just paid not knowing exactly what I'm paying for! Lol!!!||Bottom line - Casa Tara has a long way to go on the details, and needs LOTS of polishing up. Hopefully they'll get there, it has potential. If you're into classy, boujee, cute boutique hotels, this is NOT the...
