Five Star View boutique hotel
First off, The Cape is not luxurious on the level of the "super luxury" resorts I mentioned above. It has a much more hip, boutique vibe. The resort is more compact, staff is younger and more casual, music plays everywhere, bars abound.
There is one central pool and a smaller pool that is basically right next to it and I would not consider it to be a separate area. We were there on a Sunday through Wednesday and there were plenty of chairs to be found, etc. We did not sit in the cabanas as we prefer to sit overlooking the ocean but we could have had one if we wanted though they were mostly occupied by 10:00 am or so. The cabanas do have the nice, cushy loungers which is not true of the regular chairs. These are relatively firm nylon lounge chairs, many of them directly in a shallow ledge along the pool. Umbrellas were generally available though some of them were rather small and if you wanted to really stay out of the sun they might not provide enough shade. The pool staff are helpful enough though not as attentive as they might be, I usually had to get their attention. They do not provide free bottled water though they do have filtered water stations that you can use. I was a little leery of using large amounts of this water and ordered a bottle but after paying $10 for it, I just drank the filtered water and I did not have any unwelcome consequences. Towels were plentiful if not super fluffy. Drinks are good and beer was $5.00 which was nice! The pool temp was perfect, there is a swim up bar and we found the music level to be fine. We initially thought we were going to be annoyed by it but we weren't. Would love for the music to skew a little more towards a surfer vibe than the house music they played. The music at the "Ledges" breakfast was great! All in all, the pool was good, not great. Bottled water, slightly more attentive service, more frequent towel clean up, slightly better umbrellas would take it up to great for me. Maybe some kind of "service needed" indicator? The beach is right next to the pool. There are quite a few submerged rocks and there are frequently waves. They have a few chairs and umbrellas set up but they were just chairs, not loungers and I never went and sat there. A palapa and some loungers would be nice. My husband loved being able to jump right in and surf and it was fun for the rest of us to watch them. The view from the pool deck is amazing as well. Though it was only on a couple of occasions and only one or two guest, there were some people smoking at the pool. I saw the pool attendant light one guest cigarette so I assume smoking is allowed. For us that is not something we enjoy and would love to see smokers have a separate area, away from the pool for this activity.
Our room was a standard room on the 3rd floor and we loved it! The view from the balcony is the best at any of the resorts I have visited in Cabo. The decor in our room was attractive and the finishes were nice. The bed was comfy, AC worked great. The non rain type shower head didn't have great pressure and there is only one sink but all in all we liked the room. We did have smokers in the rooms next door. I am not sure I ever smelled cigar but vapes, cigarettes and ganja, yes. It's a younger crowd and you have to be realistic about what that brings. I do not know if there are smoking and non smoking rooms, ours smelled fine. Bottom line: The Cape is a great addition to the Cabo hotel lineup. Beachfront, upscale, boutique. I would not pay much over 50-60% of what I would have to pay to stay at one of the ultra luxury resorts but with a few tweaks I would consider it. But that's me, I like to hang at the pool/beach and relax and this was a little more of...
Read moreWe recently returned from our stay at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, in Cabo, and I'm eager to share my experience. In short: this property is a standout, and I wholeheartedly recommend it. From the service to the food to the stunning setting, it’s hard to find a single flaw.
The Room
We booked a “Thompson Suite” with Hyatt points and lucked into a truly spectacular space. The suite included a spacious living area with a dining table, a separate bedroom, and a spa-like ensuite. I always judge a room by its bathroom, and this one was exquisite: a gleaming copper-leafed tub big enough for two, a massive tri-head shower, and a tucked-away toilet nook. Extras like adjustable lighting, a huge balcony with a swinging couch, and a complimentary bottle of tequila made it feel indulgent. The bed? Cloudlike, with perfect pillows. Honestly—I’d go back tomorrow just for that room.
The Lobby
We gravitated toward the open-air lobby, anchored by the Sunken Bar, one of five dining and bar options, which is impressive given the boutique size of the hotel. With eclectic seating and panoramic views of the cape, it quickly became a favorite spot. Our daily ritual: coffee on the balcony swing, followed by almond lattes in the lobby that were surprisingly excellent.
The Food
Hotel dining usually sets the bar low, but here every meal impressed. My favorite? The breakfast buffet at The Edge restaurant: buttery pastries, fresh açaí bowls, and dreamy banana French toast. We didn’t make it to Michelin-starred Manta, though some of its dishes are featured at The Edge. On our final evening, we sipped cocktails at The Rooftop bar, which delivered inventive drinks, striking views, and an effortlessly cool vibe. For comparison, we tried Sunset Mona Lisa off-property one night, but honestly, The Cape outshone it on both food and scenery.
The Amenities
When not lingering in the lobby or our balcony, we rotated between the two pools and the beach. The infinity pool was predictably gorgeous, and the morning swim-up bar happy hour (yes, 8–10 AM) was a welcome bonus. The smaller saltwater pool offered more privacy but zero shade. Thanks to a small scheduling mishap, we scored a large cabana for the day and happily napped away the afternoon. At the spa, both my husband and I had outstanding massages, though the facilities themselves were compact and, at times, carried an odd odor (really my only critique of the entire stay.)
The Service
Every single staff member was outstanding, from the front desk to housekeeping, bartenders to pool attendants. Each interaction felt warm, attentive, and genuine. The service here alone would bring me back.
Final Thoughts
The Cape is one of those rare hotels where every detail feels thoughtful, yet nothing feels overproduced. I left relaxed and eager to return. That said, we visited during the off-season, when the property felt especially serene—perhaps only 40–50 guests in total. The atmosphere may be quite different during peak season, when the energy is livelier and the spaces...

The staff was extraordinary. They were so helpful and proactive in assisting us. We frequently requested ice to our room, and it was delivered almost instantly. Housekeeping did an excellent job of servicing our room daily. Everyone was super friendly and spoke English (a bonus, not an expectation). Not one negative experience with staff!
Our room was unbelievable. It was spacious, super clean, comfortable, attractively decorated, and came with a breathtaking view of the water and The Arch. Our enormous balcony included a small table and chairs, but more importantly, a large swing daybed! We spent mornings and evenings sipping coffee and cocktails on the patio while watching whales, boats, and waves roll in. It was so incredibly relaxing and beautiful! We had a view of the water from our shower and bathtub, which was really nice. Our patio doors opened extra wide to allow our room to feel much larger and experience that ocean sound and breeze from anywhere in the room. I truly can't get over how nice our room was!
The pool was beautiful, clean, and had a front row view of the water. Again, we could see whales, boats, and waves from here - such an amazing view while relaxing in the heated pool or hot tub! It was also nice that there was a swim-up bar, so no need to get out and walk anywhere to get a cocktail! :) There was plenty of seating, including umbrellas and cabanas (I believe the cabanas had a minimum required purchase of $250, but we did not get one). The vibe at the pool was light and fun, with upbeat music playing. I wish we had more time to spend here!
Lastly, the food we had was excellent. We ate dinner twice at The Rooftop and experienced the most amazing sunset on our first night. The atmosphere at The Rooftop was perfection. The restaurant is surrounded by glass, allowing stunning views from pretty much any seat, and there were multiple fire pits and tables to accommodate different group sizes and preferences. We had the guac, short rib tacos, fish tacos, popcorn shrimp, and cocktails. Everything was outstanding, including the service! Surprisingly, this seemed to be the most affordable restaurant at the hotel (based on the menus, we didn't actually eat dinner anywhere else here). For breakfast, we ate at The Ledge each morning, where they had a delicious buffet spread! There were a few traditional American breakfast items like bacon, sausage links, eggs, fruit, toast, but more importantly the Mexican dishes were delicious and fun to try, as many were new to me. The menu changed slightly each day. Over the few days we were there, we had tostadas, sopas, tacos, tamales, a shrimp/quinoa dish, fajitas, empanadas, fish, roasted chicken, sweet potatoes, potatas braves...there were so many options, and almost all of them were outstanding! The pastries/sweet breads exceeded my expectations, the fruit was FRESH, and the hot items were delectable!
I really can't say enough good things about our stay. It was...
