I needed a cheap place to stay while visiting the Caliente racetrack one evening, a short distance away and this place served the need. It's on Agua Caliente Blvd., hardly a half mile from the casino/racetrack, across the street from a large Marriott hotel....which I stared at it, longingly. ||||It looks a bit run down from the street, but lobby was quite nice and desk clerk rather friendly. She checked me in without a credit card or ID because, as I found out, there's nearly nothing you could take or would want. I left a $10 deposit for the TV remote and was given a metal key.||||The lock and nob were kinda loose and the door old. Having stayed in some modest hotels and motels but primarily in the US and Canada, I was taken aback by the condition of the room. It was painted sea green and there were scuff marks and dirt all over. Paint was peeling on the walls, ceiling and in the bathroom. There were chunks of tile and plaster missing in spots too. Two outlets and the plates were gross. The room had a full bed, a small shelf on one wall and mirror above, a small shelf next to the bed with a phone, and old tube TV set - contrary to the description that said flat screen - on a raised shelf in the corner. There was no chair, table, desk, lamp, nightstand, or luggage rack. There was a ceiling fan and light. I couldn't figure out how to work the TV. There was a small closet with a clothes rod, no shelf and no hangers. The bathroom had a shower, newer sink and old small toilet. Two decent-sized soap bars and shampoo packets were provided. There were two old, worn towels, folded like a clam shells on the bed. Cultural thing I guess. Nice touch. They had a hole or two and some faded stains. Bed and bedding was old. Good shower pressure and lots of hot water. Wifi worked very well and I even watched some video.||||It was a bit noisy outside, primarily due to the location on a busy, major, six-lane avenue but that died down late. There were very few people hanging around the grounds and it felt safe. I would stay again, if only for one short night and only by myself. The room is too small and too spartanly furnished for more than one person. The price was very cheap and if you can get past how dirty and run down it is, it's a good deal. I just couldn't give more than two 'dots' for a place in this condition, regardless of the price. It...
Read moreGiven my extensive traveles in Mexico I rate this an average to slightly above average economy priced hotel/motel. I will almost cerainly stay there again but it has it's pros and cons. I stayed in Room 6 for1 night.||Pros:||Price is very reasonable $20-21 USD or $220 pesos for single room||Room & Bathroom were very clean only a very slight scent of Pinsol or other cleaner||Location and room front parking are great in a nicer upper class area.||About 7-10 min walk to Caliente Casino/Estadio & very modern shopping center Plaza Hippodromo w/ Walmart, movies, fancy restaurants...||Cable TV on which I found at least 3 San Diego Channels in English||Quick return after room revision of deposit of $10 USD or $100 pesos TV remote & towels/linens||Towels seemed newer smelled great and were very soft||Has onsite restaurant with room service (however did not try)||Overall was very quiet see note below||AC is available at extra cost ||Walking distance to minimarket/deposito and various restaurants including great breakfasts at El Potero in the sombrero building by the pedestrian bridge. ||||Cons:||Bed was somewhat comfortable but had very noticeable crease in center||I stayed on a Thursday night and at 5am Friday very loud garbage pickup was made||Bathroom door would not fully close and shower leaked slightly||Notes on walls of room stating charges if room items go missing but to me understandable given...
Read moreI got charged 400 pesos/night +100 pesos deposit for 1 person. When first entered the room smelled like wet dog. The bathroom has no towel rack. And the cleaners laid the hand towel on the floor. The hotel is by a busy street, so the noise of traffic is constant. The room is medium sized. The pillows offered are very high for comfort, even for a side sleeper. There is wifi, and hot water.. Though my sink only had the option of hot, no cold. The sink was very very slow to drain.
Place is dingy and offers safe parking. It is good for 1 night if you are waiting to pass through the border. I found out that there is a cheaper motel within walking distance that is 250 pesos, that was not listed on google.
Edit: I didn't get my deposit back, because my towel had a smudge of black car grease on it.. Yet their blankets had spots of dried blood when I entered. OK you guys...
