as we were getting closer to our trip, new reviews were really bad and made us think we chose the wrong place to stay... Well...we LOVED our stay! Those bad reviews must be from people w/ really high or unrealistic expectations. I will say, there are some cons but not any that made us hate our stay (will list at the end). Fyi, The hotel is not adult only. Jesus gave us a great tour when he took us to our room. We stayed in a Junior swim up suite which was amazing & the view was impeccable. The room was clean, the king bed was comfortable, the a/c was heavenly, theres a mini fridge they will stock with drinks/snacks but no liquor and of course the private pool was beautiful and clean(ask for more towels, you'll need it!!). Mauricio was at a desk near our room and he helped us out a lot with any questions we had and he was nice to joke with. We were literally steps away to the ocean and its crystal clear water, the seaweed was not bad AT ALL and we saw tractors in the morning cleaning the beaches. The hammocks on the beach were so comfortable, the cabanas and umbrellas were an additional charge but its not needed unless you wanted drink service. Definitely get the all inclusive, we didn't utilize it as much as we wanted for alcohol (we did get a ton of daiquiris though) but we got our money's worth with their restaurants (seafood is excluded but we didn't care, everything else was amazing). As soon as you arrive, go make dinner reservations at Albatros (they fill up fast), luckily Jonathan helped us out with a last minute table and we are so thankful for him because that Italian food (especially the lasagna) was amazing!! Albatros breakfast is amazing too and no reservation needed, get mimosas, molletes with some salsa and French toast, trust me! The buffet is very small but we still liked the food, everything just needed salt but their green salsa was on point!! Definitely try to get there early for breakfast/ dinner to get better pickings, plus that's when the dining area is less hot and humid (it gets bad). The hot dog/burger cart for lunch is bomb too. The tacos at night are amazing when hot, my fave was chorizo, but you can only get 4. All the food listed was included and there were more that we didnt get a chance to try. Emmanuel at the swim up bar was the best at drinks and he would get bombarded with orders and he was quick with his service, loved him!! Carlos at the door saved us, there was a long line to check out and our ride was there but he got us out so fast, we really appreciate him!!
our last morning we met Alfredo(I think that's his name, he was young with glasses) at the front who was so willing to show us around and explain certain amenities, I wish we met him at the beginning of our trip.
Cons: the front desk does not explain anything about whats included with the all inclusive, we learned as we went and we waisted time not knowing things. The "better" liquor is not included, i would understand top shelf not being included but average liquor was not and they only have jose Cuervo tequila that is included (gross). The pool bar closes so early, 6pm on the dot and not a second past. The main pool has screaming, annoying kids that splash you all night. No bar is open in the morning even though they state there is. Table service is very slow in the buffet dining room, getting regular drinks during meals takes forever and you have to flag someone down for refills but the host is always nice and service is a little better in the morning. Dont request something for your room after 8pm, you'll never get it, even when you talk to them face to face. They were supposed to set up the sofa as a bed and didn't do it till our last night. The beach towel service was so far from our room, they should have it on each side of the hotel. There were 2 staff members who had attitudes with us asking questions and even ignored us.
Besides these minor inconveniences we had an amazing time and would return!! I hope this helped someone have a...
Read moreI rarely write reviews and when I do, they are always positive. With that said, I feel compelled to write this regrettably negative review with hopes it inspires change from the resort and/or allows others to avoid my negative experience by choosing a different destination. I recently stayed here with the all-inclusive package, and while there were a few bright spots, these were quickly overshadowed by numerous issues that made for a frustrating stay.
The Bad: Broken Amenities: The hot tub heater was broken (making the one hot tub unusable), my bathroom sink handle was broken, and my friends' shower handle was broken. Additionally, two of the three treadmills were broken in a tiny gym that could not fit more than three people comfortably at a time (which is not helpful for a resort with nearly 250 rooms).
Key Policy: Only being allowed one key per room is inconvenient, and the $5 charge for losing it feels excessive.
3.Watered-Down Drinks: The drinks were blatantly watered down, though the bartenders tried to make up for it by pouring doubles (which still didn’t amount to much).
4.Uncomfortable Accommodations: The beds were uncomfortable, rooms in general were run down, and the windows were single-paned - allowing loud street noise to disturb our sleep.
5.Towel Charges: Losing a beach towel or having one taken would cost $30—a ridiculous policy for an all-inclusive resort.
6.False Operating Hours: The “24/7” coffee and snack shop was never open during my four-night stay.
7.Limited Dining Options: There were only two restaurants open for dinner. One required an in-person reservation made a day in advance by waiting in line (not by calling as advertised). If you couldn’t get a reservation, you were left with only one dinner option. This resulted in long wait times and a rushed dining experience with subpar food.
8.Limited Access to Water: Bottled water was difficult to come by and guests had to track down a server at every meal just to get a small glass of water - refills of said water were never offered.
9.Subpar Spa: The “spa” consisted of a wide-open cabana where my friend's massage was interrupted by a tourist asking for directions, ruining the relaxation and putting her privacy at risk.
10.Unfair Checkout Policy: My friend left at 5:30am for her flight so when I checked out for us later that morning, I was hit with a $100 fee because her all-inclusive bracelet hadn’t been cut. I was not able to leave without paying this fee as a result of a policy that was never communicated at check-in, and when they referenced my agreement form, it was only written in Spanish. I do not speak Spanish so I had relied on the front desk to translate and they conveniently left out that policy. There was no attempt to find a solution and I was forced to pay this obvious scam and dispute the charge later with my credit card company.
Additional Note for Visitors:
I highly recommend having at least a conversational understanding of Spanish if you plan to stay at this resort. Many staff members have limited English-speaking skills, which made communication difficult at times. This is especially important if you need clarification on policies or have specific requests during your stay.
The Good:
The only redeeming aspects of this resort were the friendly bartenders who tried to make the best of the watered-down drinks, one helpful server, and one kind front desk staff member. Unfortunately, even their kindness couldn’t outweigh the poor overall experience, especially since the front desk supervisor was rude and made it clear that she didn't like assisting Americans.
Final Verdict:
I do not recommend Flamingo Cancun Resort under any circumstance. The broken amenities, restrictive policies, lack of transparency, and overall poor quality made this a regrettable choice. There are far better resorts in Cancun that will provide a more comfortable and enjoyable stay. Save your money and...
Read moreThis is most definitely not a 4-star resort. TLDR: you get what you pay for,
That being said I enjoyed my trip, the location of this resort and the beach are the 2 main attractions.
Although I am not well versed in all Inclusive resorts, I travel for work constantly and have staid in hotels as much as I have stayed in my home so I consider myself fairly experienced.
The Good: the beach was clean and beautiful, with relatively easy access and not crowded at all. Definitely the highlight of this resort,
The calzones at the pizza bar are the only good food at this location, I lived on them.
My room was great, extremely comfortable bed, clean, AC worked great, it was evident I had recieved an upgrade over my travel companions. (The shower was a little disappointing but it did the job)
The staff are CONSTANTLY cleaning. I was very impressed to see just how much daily cleaning was done, although the 8am pressure washer outside my room was annoying, I do appreciate the cleanliness of this place
Even with the lack of English speakers at this resort I felt very safe there, I didn't feel like I had to look over my shoulder at all
The Bad: If you are a smoker like me, you are forced to stand on the sidewalk next to the highway to smoke, it's hot and miserable, some care could have been taken to provide a shaded sitting area.
The breakfast was terrible, I lived on French toast and watered down orange juice, takes about 30 minutes to get a tea or coffee at breakfast and heaven forbid you ask for milk.
The dinner buffet was not good either, we ate off the resort almost every night due to the food. (Little taco place 5 minutes south on the side of the road was truly fantastic)
The bars close super early, the entire resort is a ghost town at night, they literally kicked us out of the "hot tub" at 10. The bars are also not overly convenient, having a drink on the beach is a hike. If you want any kind of night life your are walking or driving
They force you to pay 700 pesos per day to rent a covered cabana on the beach if you want shade. I was punished with a nasty sunburn for refusing to pay for the luxury
Some rooms are dated with an intense mildew smell. Again my room was great, but my buddies room was terrible.
If you have a road facing room like I did, the traffic noise is intense, booze helps though (not at all the resorts fault, people drive like crazy there)
They are doing work on the property so construction noise is constant (the property really needs it so good to see the work gets done)
This being one of the cheapest resorts I did not expect top teir service, and I definitely didn't get it (Carlos at the pizza place was an absolute rockstar though he took excellent care of us) but the staff spoke very broken English (most of the guests there are Mexican) and just seemed to be going through the motions.
The wifi here is non existent, I had read previous reviews and paid for roaming, everyone I went with ended up having to as well as the wifi does not work at all, and they make no effort to fix it.
There is no business center of the sort, I needed to scan and email a document and was told they had no scanner even though they scanned my passport at check in
All in all, I had low expectations, I absolutely enjoyed my trip, the cons were minor in my opinion the true piss offs for me was the lack of smoking area and the terrible food.
This place serves its purpose, if your looking for a cheap no frills resort with a stunning beach with "food" and drinks with a little alcohol in them it will absolutely do. The value for money is a split for me, I did not feel ripped off at all as it's such a cheap price. And the people I traveled with had budget as their #1 criteria. That said, I'll definitely pick a different...
