Our family's stay at Wyndham Grand Cancun from January 1-8, 2024, was a regrettable experience. Despite some positives like a beautiful beach and an underused kids' club, the negatives overshadowed our stay. We are a family of 4, including two young kids (5 and 3 years old). Positive: - Beautiful turquoise beach, free of debris and sargassum while we were there. This is similar to other resorts along the hotel zone. Couple days of strong waves. - Kid's club with an adjacent pool and bar were mostly empty and underused. Kind staff here. Popcorn and other snacks for the kids. - Food is average. They have chicken wings and bacon. - Typical pools with swim-up bars. You cannot order food while at the pool. You need to line up at one of the outdoor restaurants and sit down to order any food. They won't let you order and take food away to the pool. - 3-4 nightly shows/week. We went to the Michael Jackson show. Negative: - NO ramp for stroller/wheelchair access to the buffet dining area (la Paloma). The few ramps available outdoors are too steep and frankly dangerous/slippery for use. NO ramp to the beach. This hotel definitely was not designed for accessibility. - Cost-cutting measures under the guise of a "green hotel" were evident. Room cleaning every other day became sporadic, leading to a three-day ordeal without essentials like towels and toiletries. Despite multiple requests, we never got any. We had to grab most of these necessities from the maid cart elsewhere in the hotel. We complained enough that finally, management just gave us a different room since they couldn't find any housekeeper around. - Very difficult to find drinking straws. The ones they have are biodegradable and break down after a few uses. This is frustrating if you have young children who can't drink directly from the provided reusable plastic cups. - Reusable plastic cups. Who knows if these were thoroughly cleaned. Again, another cost-cutting measure. - Generic shampoo/conditioner in plastic refillable bottles. Stay away if you have sensitive skin. - Mini-fridge in each room with minimal offerings. - Overworked hotel staff affecting service. The staff and management are overall helpful as much as they can. Chronic understaffing affects their service. One waiter served half of the buffet dining area, for example. - Dinner is either at the buffet dining area (la Paloma) or at 3 restaurants requiring a reservation. Reservation has to be done in person at the concierge or through the app exactly at 9 am. The spots quickly run out at the better Italian restaurant (da Vinci) within 3 minutes. - Reserved beach chairs for timeshare holders, while often empty, left limited options for others. - The inability to order poolside unless paying for exclusive areas added to the disappointment. Outdoor restaurants shut down around 4 pm despite the official closing at 5 pm. Outdoor activities also shut down after 5 pm. - Avoid rooms at lobby level (room# 12xx) and the ones directly above (room# 14xx). Noise and outdated small rooms. - Room service was slow and cost $5 with each use. First time seeing this at an all-inclusive resort. Retrospectively, many of the negatives were mentioned in past reviews and acknowledged by management, but nothing was done to mitigate these issues, particularly chronic understaffing. Cost-cutting measures despite steep prices comparable to other resorts along the hotel zone. Accessibility won't be fixed anytime soon. For families with young kids, especially those requiring strollers or wheelchair access, Wyndham Grand Cancun is strongly advised against. The prices do not match the disappointing experience offered.

Overall our stay was pleasant enough for 6 nights. 📍Food: If you plan to stay longer than 3 days, then except to get bored of the food quick. I got bored of the same food after day 3 of 6 and even if I had set my expectations low (knowing that it's an all inclusive), I was still disappointed. Like many of the reviews before me, we felt like the menu needs a massive overhaul. If there's a chef that's overssing the whole menu for the whole resort, then I hope Wyndham takes a closer look. 📍Da Vinci (Italian) restaurant within the hotel was particularly sad for me. Note that if you're handicapped or wheelchair bound, there's no way for you to get down without the staff to physically lift you down the set of stairs. The food itself was underwhelming. My choice of entree for one of the nights was lasagna - except it had no lasagna noodles. Just layers of cheese and meat (questionable because it looks like a frozen microwave dish) served in a fancy large ceramic plate. It was o disappointing I had to ask if I could swap my meal for something else, which was a 4 cheese penne that was not giving 4 cheese at all. It's giving Easy Mac but penne noodles. Everything else on the resort was ok. Taco stand is ok quality. Sushi bar was ok quality (expect LONG WAIT TIMES). Buffet food was ok - and this is the busiest out of them all. My biggest gripe with the buffet is food never felt fresh or nearly as hot as food should be for good food handling safety. Expect busy and overwhelmed staff here as well. 📍La Vista Brazilian Steakhouse was the only spot that probably redeemed the whole resort. They served breakfast and dinner. We preferred this spot for breakfast over any other of the restaurants on site. It's less busy and the quality of food seems to be higher (not by much). Dinner here is ok. If you're expecting good meat cuts, then lower your expectations. Overall, dinner here was ok and service here was the best. 📍Service overall is a hit or miss for us. They are most likely understaffed. But overall expect long wait times and constantly asking for a water refill. 📍 Facility is ok. It's not as rundown as others, but there are still elements of the building that could really use a makeover. They have a beach bar that oddly shuts down at night so then only bar anyone can hang out with is the tiny one in the lobby. It feels like a waste to not have access to the pool or Jacuzzi past 7pm. 📍Sales talks is as expected. So just be aware that it's literally their job to hunt you down and get you to sit in on their timeshare pitch. Be firm and let them know you're not interested and they will get the hint. 📍 Beach and pool was what hooked me to book this place. The pool with the built in lounge chairs caught my eye and the dazzling beach . The beach was heavenly, but again it's a trek if you're handicapped. 🥂Overall we tried it, but won't be back. It did it's job for a much needed reset from life. But if you want to be impressed with service, food quality, and facilities then keep looking elsewhere.

Drinks - glad we stayed here. Drinks were so watered down that none of us felt dehydrated! Wink wink! Staff - most were glad to serve us - who we then tipped happily, some did so only in the expectation of a tip - who we then chose not to tip. But honestly, we are the ones who've turned every service and occasion into a tipping occasion. Has to stop somewhere. Restaurants - we liked service, ambience and food at Pina colada the most, then la Paloma the buffet and viva Mexico and sushi bar. Avoid trattoria the poolside snacks thing like anything! Terribly slow service, rude waiter whose photo I've attached (with us he was fine but we saw him talk down at a bunch of absolutely orderly teenagers just because they joined two tables to accommodate their large group; no surprise they left) and no surprise we didn't see ANYONE including us, leave a tip for him. And the pizzas here are hhoorroobbllee! La Paloma staff both servers and those at the grill were nice and helpful with special requests. Same goes for cafe deli ladies in any shift. Food - good variety with several dishes and themes changing daily. The spread ensured that vegetarians stayed alive during their stay. Indian cuisine: don't be mistaken by some reviews, they have absolutely no day, no restaurant, nothing when Indian dishes are served but yes you will find veg stuff. Staff - as mentioned above - mostly nice with only 2 exceptions - one the trattoria server and the other guy at the concierge - he could be a little more smiling and interested in you. Ambience - family friendly and fun. Smokers were well behaved too - only found at designated spots except for some who thought vaping means it can be done anywhere. And yes like any other AI or cruise you have uncivilized guests who grab beach or pool side chairs n recliners for hours with their stuff but are never to be seen. Mini bar - a joke. Tiny bottles of soda, of water and a few cans of beer - all having a limit on daily consumption/restocking. Location - good to have a Domino's and an Oxxo and 7 eleven just outside. That aside this place is far from the buzz areas of hotel strip. Room - we took the deluxe lagoon view interconnected rooms. Good space and well maintained. Spacious balcony (only 1 room had a balcony, the other one had included that space inside the room but no balcony). Side perk: nice east view of the sunset across the lagoon, and a glimpse of the ocean on the east, minus the pool noise and music. Even if one takes an ocean view room, it would still have their entire pool etc between the room and the ocean unlike others which open directly having the ocean. As for amenities - good luck if you want simple stuff like a dental kit or creamer or sugar etc for coffee. They don't have it in the rooms! Costco travel credit - useless. see the terms and conditions attached, you can basically use it only on extremely overpriced spa services n wines/steaks menu, that also only on select ones.

My husband and I got married here at the Wyndham Grand Cancun in October of this year and our day was nothing short of incredible. Planning a destination wedding is a little bit stressful, but the process was made much easier by Ximena, the wedding coordinator at Wyndham. She was incredibly communicative throughout the entire year that we planned the wedding. She was very easy to work with, answered all of our questions and always responded very quickly to any email. We were able to meet in person with Ximena a few months prior to our wedding and she answered many of our questions and organized a menu tasting for the wedding food. Once we arrived in Mexico for the wedding, we met with Ximena again to go over all of the last minute details and the schedule of the day. On the day of the wedding, she helped organize and coordinate the day making sure that everything ran smoothly (and it did). ||From the start of our wedding day everything exceeded our expectations. We were given a bridal villa for myself and my bridesmaids to get ready in for the day. My husband and I chose to have our ceremony on Mirador Terrace which was overlooking the beach. At first, I was a little bit nervous about the privacy of the event because of the close proximity of Mirador Terrace to the pools in the resort. However, at 5:30pm the pools are mostly empty and the staff did an excellent job of blocking off access to our ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony our guests were able to go over to La Vista restaurant where our cocktail hour and reception were both held. (I would recommend this indoor option for a wedding due to the privacy and also in October it gets very buggy outside after the sun went down.) We were able to rent the space for the night for an additional cost. When we got over cocktail hour we were blown away by how they had transformed the restaurant into a beautiful wedding venue. Everything had been decorated beautifully and everyone fit comfortably at the cocktail hour tables. The staff quickly took out the cocktail hour tables when it was time for the reception to begin. Dinner was served quickly and the food was excellent. The staff accommodated kids meals, allergies and a vegetarian without any problems. The only down-side is that we had to pick out one entree for all of the guests to have (as opposed to the guests choosing a chicken, beef or veggie option). However, we chose the surf and turf option which was a crowd pleaser and our guests loved the food. Manuel was our DJ from Digital Sound which was recommended to us by Ximena. We provided him a playlist for dinner and then for the party and he kept the dance floor going all night long. I can't say enough good things about the wait staff and the bartenders as well. Every time I turned around there was a tray of tequila shots going to another table. We opted for two welcome drinks: watermelon mezcal with a tajin rim, and a pineapple coconut drink with rum. Both were served all night and our guests raved about them both. |The entire night went exactly according to plan, it was exactly how we pictured it. Everything about our wedding night was perfect and it was all brought to life by Ximena and the staff at Wyndham Grand Cancun. |If you're thinking of doing a destination wedding, you cannot go wrong choosing this venue!!!||Just a couple things to note: |1. I have a pretty large immediate family (parents, siblings/spouses) and making dinner reservations to be all together was impossible unless we ate at the buffet. The restaurants only accommodate up to six people per reservation. If my husband and I wanted our families to eat dinner together, (15 of us total), our only option was the buffet. |2. We asked to do a rehearsal of the ceremony the night before the wedding. Ximena did accommodate a rehearsal, however it just ended up being the wedding party going out to the terrace and the terrace still had lounge chairs out with people sitting in them. So we weren't able to rehearse the ceremony as bridal parties normally do. Though I do think they would have accommodated this request if we had been clearer.|3. I mentioned this above but, you have to pick one entree for all of your guests to have. If you choose the beef option, you also have to choose one temperature for all of the guests. We chose the surf and turf cooked medium-well and it was a...

I would like to share my top reasons why I will NOT be returning to Wyndham Grand Cancun Resort and Villa AND why as a Travel Agent I will not recommend this resort to fellow travelers.

Our stay was from June 2nd-7th 2025. We arrived at the resort and was instantly greeted by a warm receptionist in the lobby and was escorted to a sitting area to collect our personal information. We then asked if we were interested in becoming "members" of the Wyndham family. We politely declined and it was from that moment I realized the front desk management attitude changed from friendly to condescending and rude.

Check-in After paying the $25 extra charge for taxes and were then told we had to wear wristbands and if the wristband are lost we would need to pay $100. I thought that was a bit absurd price to pay for a piece of plastic but, nevertheless we had to sign a contract to receive wristband and agree about the replacement cost. I would like to add, I have visited many all inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean and not once we had to sign a "wristband contract."

Villa We were a party of 6, 5 adults and 1 child. The Villa with three bedrooms and 3 and half baths was spacious. The villa provided enough space for everyone to be comfortable. However, the Villa had a black ant problem that infested my sister's and son's room. They were also spotted in the kitchen and dinning area. Furthermore, the furnishings of the villa were dated and needing some repairs. The sofa needed a deep clean. Lot of stains on it. My headboard in my room and my parents room definitely have seen better days. The beds were rock hard, that made sleeping uncomfortable. The pillows were thin as well. Housekeeping did a phenomenal job keeping the villa cleaned on a daily basis. Shout out to Ms. Rosalie.

Food and Drink Buffet food was not pleasant. The food at the steak house was disgusting. I left hungry and disappointed. The alcoholic beverages taste watered down. Some of the staff that worked the pool area were a bit rude most were not. The wings and fries by pool side were tasty. My brother in law mentioned the sushi was good.

Kids Club Shout out to Ms. Samantha for ensuring my son had a memorable experience. He enjoyed the kids club and the kid area.

Wristband Scam. BIGGEST REASON NEVER TO RETURN! June 4th, while visiting the Xacret Park my wristband fell off. Ms. Gabriella at the front desk put on herself. When we return to the resort I went to the front desk and explain the situation and immediately was told there was nothing they could do, I have to pay the $100. When I refuse, the a manager came out. My sister explained her wristband pop off and needed to be replace and my dad wristband pop off while just sitting at dinner. The wristband were flimsy and the clamps were weak making it easy for them to just pop apart. The night of June 4th around 10pm the manager told me I should have been "careful" and I should have went back to the park to retrieved it; granted it was 10pm (no regard to my safety and wellbeing). I told the manager that night I refuse to pay for a piece of defective plastic. Then he said, he would call the authorities on me to remove me from the property if I don't pay the $100. I walked away without paying and still enjoyed the amenities I paid for, for the duration of my stay. I deem the wristband replacement fee is just another setup to bleed more cash out of innocent guests to fatten Wyndham pockets. The front desk management including attitude and posture was antagonizing, rude and disrespectful.

Overall The resort is modest, clean and organized. The villa needs rails for stairs for elderly guest. Staff around resort mostly friendly and courteous. Front desk management needs more training in customer care services. Wristband policy is terrible and needs to be changed. Kid Clubs needs hourly cleaning with safe products. Ms. Samantha needed a extra pair of hands for support and breaks. Food/drinks wasn't 4 or 5 star quality more...

We have stayed at four different resorts in Cancun, all within the hotel zone. Out of these, Wyndham Grand Cancun would rank as our least favorite and, in our opinion, feels closer to a 3-star property. Several guests we spoke with mentioned that before it was rebranded as Wyndham, the resort offered better food options and higher overall quality. Some even noted that staff are encouraged to write positive reviews, which might explain the higher ratings online.

Property Atmosphere and Cleanliness: The property feels a bit dated overall. While it’s clear some upgrades have been made to the rooms, the indoor areas left much to be desired. The low ceilings and unusual layout made the interiors feel cramped. On the other hand, the outdoor facilities were enjoyable, offering several pools to suit different preferences, outdoor dining areas, food service by the pools, and a beach bar with plenty of seating. The beach itself was well-maintained, relatively free of seaweed (thanks to a morning tractor service), and swimmable during our stay in mid-April. Overall, the resort grounds were kept clean and tidy.

Staff: The staff at the main pool were outstanding. Whisky and his team created a fun atmosphere, especially for kids and teens. Our teenager loved participating in activities like pool basketball, volleyball, and various competitions. The team made an effort to learn the kids' names and engage with them daily, although the activities seemed more geared toward a younger crowd. The bartenders at the pool and lobby bars were also fantastic—friendly, attentive, and took pride in their work. However, many other staff members appeared tired, disinterested, and not particularly welcoming. They did not go out of their way to enhance the guest experience. For instance, when we arrived, we inquired about a room upgrade. As a "VIP" member through Expedia, we were eligible for a free upgrade if available. The concierge showed us a beach view room but then informed us it would cost an additional $100 per night. When I pointed out the free upgrade benefit, he simply said, "when available"—even though he had just shown us the available room. Tired and hungry from a long day of travel, we chose not to argue and stayed in our original lagoon-view room. We also mentioned we were celebrating our son’s 16th birthday (the trip was a gift purchased in advance), but this acknowledgment was met with little more than a laugh and no further effort from the staff.

Room: The room itself was clean and nicely updated. However, there was a strong, somewhat unpleasant smell that hit us immediately. While humidity often causes this in Mexico, other resorts we’ve stayed at made more effort to keep guest areas smelling fresh. The main lobby had a pleasant scent, but the hallways and rooms did not.

Food: Unfortunately, the food was the biggest disappointment of our stay. Despite reading many positive reviews beforehand, we found it subpar compared to other 4-star resorts. The buffet, pool snack restaurant, daytime Mexican restaurant, and sushi restaurant were the best dining options. However, the three restaurants requiring reservations—DaVinci (Italian), Pina Colada (Mexican/fusion), and La Vista (Brazilian steakhouse)—all had limited menus and low-quality food. We appreciated that Pina Colada offered a kid-friendly menu, which was crucial for our picky 7-year-old. Still, convenient food options for children were lacking. We also missed the flexibility of bringing food poolside, a convenience we’ve enjoyed at other resorts. Overall, we were very disappointed with the dining experience.

Final Thoughts: While there were some highlights—especially the beach, pools, and a few outstanding staff members—the overall experience at Wyndham Grand Cancun fell short of our expectations. It is clear that Wyndham does not take pride in quality, but only cares about their own costs. If you are considering a stay, we recommend keeping your expectations low, particularly regarding the food and general...
