This is a phenomenal hotel/b&b. I cannot say how incredible our experience at Casa Emilia was. We stayed here as part of a honeymoon trip around Mexico and topping it off here in mexico City was a real highlight. ||The interior design is a work of art which perfectly balances masculine and feminine; bold inky colours and exposed brick/concrete are matched with luxurious bedding and soft furnishings. The central courtyard is an oasis, with giant homely plants, a tinkling fountain, and tasteful music (both turned off at night) welcoming you back from a day's exploration around the big city or a night out in Mexico's bars and restaurants. The room was exceptionally well thought-through and provided a blissful night's sleep; we had a room facing the courtyard and it was silent, dark, and cool (even in early September - there was a ceiling fan but we didn't need it.) Both the bedding and towels were outrageously soft, with the latter replaced daily. ||In the morning we awoke to the smell of fresh waffles and the sound of gentle music from downstairs. The breakfast is incredible - each day we began with fruit, then we were offered a choice of homemade main courses, and we always ended with freshly baked waffles. Our hostess was not only an exceptional cook but is a phenomenal hotelier - offering us the rare and special balance between homely familiarity and exclusive privacy which one only finds in hotels of this standard. There are so many little touches that make Casa Emilia special, from the rosemary-infused water to the roof terrace where one can escape with a glass of wine before heading out. ||The location is excellent (we found everywhere easily within walking distance (but Uber is also so cheap and easy in Mexico City)). Toiletries, Wifi, temperature, noise, and ease of check-in/out were all excellent. There is someone on duty 24 hours a day which is really wonderful. ||The only problem with Casa Emilia is that some guests may find it so incredibly relaxing that they struggle to leave! On two days we didn't get out and venture into the city until gone ten in the morning because we enjoyed so much time chilling at the breakfast table or drinking coffee listening to the fountain - this is very unlike us and is the perfect demonstration of how calm, homely, peaceful, and welcoming Casa Emilia is. All the staff are exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and professional. ||I've never bothered to write such a long review but I needed to say how much I...

Gladly, I had booked this hotel via booking.com that reimbursed me after having checked the fraudulent demeanour of Casa Emilia and the terrible condition of this place. For more info read the below.
Rarely have I encountered a hotel that so thoroughly embodies the art of disappointment. I arrived with reasonable expectations, checked in, and then was led to what was supposedly my room—a space so damp and stifling it felt like a greenhouse abandoned to the elements. Adding to the sense of exposure was a flimsy glass door, as if privacy were an afterthought rather than a given.
Faced with conditions that would make even the most budget-conscious traveler think twice, I raised my concerns with the front desk. To their credit, they offered to cancel my stay and even directed me to an alternative hotel. This, I initially thought, was an act of goodwill—until my credit card was charged in full. When I followed up, I was met with a smokescreen of excuses: the room was “non-refundable,” and my brief, horrified glimpse inside apparently counted as a “check-in.”
This is not hospitality; this is a bait-and-switch operation dressed up in the language of policy enforcement. A hotel that acknowledges its own inadequacies, suggests alternatives, yet still charges a guest for a service they explicitly rejected, is not running an honest business—it’s running a scam.
Travelers, consider yourselves warned. If you value integrity, transparency, and basic livability, avoid this establishment at all costs. And if management insists on keeping my payment, they should consider using it to invest in dehumidifiers, proper doors, and perhaps a refresher course on what it truly...
Read moreWe arrived and were placed in a room full of mold, with a dirty portable air conditioner that made me have an allergy crisis all night. The air was humid, musty, and completely unhealthy.
The next morning, we spoke with the staff, who admitted the room’s condition was bad. They offered another room, but only for two nights, after which we would have to go back to the same moldy room — which we absolutely refused.
Since the property had no other rooms available, we had to move to another hotel and pay again for those two nights, even though we had already paid for our stay at this place.
We tried to solve the situation politely, simply asking for a refund for the two nights we couldn’t stay, but the owner rudely refused. It’s honestly unbelievable — we didn’t even stay at the hotel for those nights, and the reason we left was completely justified.
What’s worse, when we checked the room before leaving, we noticed that the hotel had cleaned the area where the mold was, proving they were aware of the issue all along.
The room itself was tiny, basement-like, poorly ventilated, and with mold on the curtains and walls. The smell was unbearable, and the space was so small it barely fit two people. It’s a joke to even call that a “room.”
Even the staff agreed with us privately that the situation was unacceptable — they were kind, but clearly embarrassed by the condition of the property and the owner’s attitude.
We travel often and have stayed in many hotels around the world, but this experience was one of the worst we’ve ever had. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The combination of poor hygiene, lack of empathy, and refusal to handle a legitimate complaint professionally is simply...
