My husband and I returned from a three night stay at Casa Olea 10 days ago. Having read the reviews, I really thought this place was going to be a great find. It has potential. In hindsight, however, I wonder about some of these reviews. Let's be clear - they do not purport to be a 4 or 5 star establishment but the reviews sure made it sound like it could be. First off, when we arrived, we were provided a room on the second floor that wasn't what I purchased. And yes, please keep in mind - THERE IS NO A/C, so if that's important to you, this is not the place for you. They were good about changing our room quickly and we were provided a room that was appropriate to what I paid for. Keep in mind, that the staff here does not really speak English. The problems with the new room were that they were doing some sort of construction work within the hotel while we were there. The smell of paint and chemicals in the room that first day was overwhelming. Either they halted the work for the two subsequent days or they finished because that was no longer a problem after the first day. It was, however, quickly replaced by an overwhelming and horrible sewage/stale water smell that came and went in the bathroom. We came back one night after a day out and about and the smell was almost unbearable. As far as locations go, it's a quiet area, a little off the beaten path but still close enough to get around. If you prefer to be in the midst of the action, this may not be it. They have a cafe attached to the hotel, which is basically the only amenity the hotel actually has. We had coffee and a pastry there almost every morning. It fit our need, but there is a woman who works there and she is incredibly unfriendly. Overall, when I go back, I won't be staying at...
Read moreBEWARE!!! First off, there is NO A/C! They will provide a fan, but what good is hot air?! This "hotel" should really be classified as a "motel," much less a "boutique hotel." Rooms are spacious, but detailed cleanliness needs to be improved. Particularly cleanliness throughout the stay. I stayed 6 nights, in which they did not once, dust/clean or vacuum the floor, change the sheets, wipe down the tables or night stands. Housekeeping would take towels & not replace them. We were initially only provided, 1 washcloth, 1 hand towel & 2 bath towels (all of which felt like sandpaper) and had to ask for more each day. The hotel does not provide kleenex. There was a strange odor in public areas. 2 days, there was a sewage smell. Patio was dirty & never cleaned/swept. Staff would greet guests but were not necessarily friendly or hospitable. No coffee, drinks, or food onsite. Very inconvenient. I would not recommend and I will not stay again. I fell for the good reviews & the nice website....
Read moreI stayed at Casa Olea for 4 nights. The hotel itself looks very nice and well-kept, but I would not recommend staying here—at least not on the first floor. My room was located there, and it was extremely noisy. You can hear everything going on in the hotel as if the walls have zero soundproofing. Every time someone shut a door, it would wake me up in the middle of the night.
To make things worse, my room’s window faced the reception/lobby area, so there was constant noise from people coming and going. I also didn’t realize my room had no air conditioning. The only way to get some air was by sliding the window open, which only made the noise issue worse.
Overall, while the property looks nice, the lack of comfort and quiet makes it hard...
