Casa Monarca is located in a beautiful colonial-era building in a quiet street about ten minutes walk or so to Puebla's Zocaclo. The room we were given was reasonably spacious and light in spite of having no windows giving to the outside of the building (most rooms give to the internal courtyard). Drinking water was provided, but there were no in-room facilities for making hot beverages. My only criticism would be that the service from reception was erratic. In spite of passing the reception multiple times per day, we were never once asked how we were enjoying our stay. There were at least four or five different receptionists on duty during our short stay. The female receptionist really does need to work on her people skills if she is contemplating working in the hospitality sector long term. Having already reported a fault with our in-room service a couple of times previously, the female receptionist did everything but practically roll her eyes at having to be bothered by our request. She also asked whether "I would like to explain everything in English" which was a tad rude since I am bilingual in Spanish and work full time as a translator. All up the level of service was average, but didn't add anything...

Pros: The staff was attentive and nice when I checked in. They kindly switched to English when we reached the end of my Spanish skills. There is a wifi router /in each room/. Amazing. The wifi is FAST. One of the best I've had at a hotel. They do lock the door later in the night, but there was someone there that immediately opened it for me, and then let me back in promptly as well. Keypad door locks! Yes! I love it. I don't know why every hotel hasn't switched.
UPDATE: Wifi has been very inconsistent. I can't really enjoy join a basic video call for work right now. Soooo frustrating and upsetting, but the room is still good so I'll...
Read moreVery disappointed on about the service with only one exception, the young guy that works always the Night Shift. Manager was rude to my wife and the male day time receptionist was not to the standard I expected, not even when my wife and I were recommended by the owner of this place. Bathroom door was loud and noice, hair dryer didn’t work and when we asked for one they denied it. Loots to improve defiantly trying a different place to spend our time and...
