Tulum was a city of hidden gems, and none more valuable then Hotel Xkeban. From the 'Above & Beyond' customer service to the immaculate ambiance and interior design throughout the whole hotel, Xkeban executed in all aspects.
Highlights! The food was always fresh and made to order! The customer service was truly 24/7 and responses were immediate! The earthy and exotic vibe was second to none, and above all, the most spectacular roof top pool complete with drink service, a breath taking view of Tulum! Not to mention it is open 24/7!
Things to note!
Xkeban is definitely a head of it's time, almost too ahead! The location is on a dirt road that made it, well let's just say 'adventurous' at the very least for approximately 50 yards in and out of the hotel. A detail I was willing to overlook as I prefer to be in more natural areas and a few hours of practice on my scooter made the dirt road kind of fun to ride on.
Xkeban seems to be going for a more 'Zen' Paradise in the Jungle vibe. The rooms were a perfect blend of jungle meets modern vibes. In saying that, there isn't a single TV in the vicinity. Personally didn't mind this detail as I tend to try and escape the modern world when I am on vacation, however, if the inability to watch T.V. is a deal breaker, I would consider a big chain hotel. *To be noted the hotel and each room had WiFi access, just not T.V. I used my laptop and cell phone for the occasional peek into social media!
Stairs, stairs and more stairs! If stairs isn't your thing, I would call ahead and try to lock in a room on the first floor! After the second day, I got use to the climb, but I will admit, it was a bit shocking to know that there wasn't an elevator. The stairs were not impossible to climb or shocking, more so as I have definitely become accustomed to elevators.
Takeaway?!
Xkeban Hotel is not just the best bang for your buck, it is the real life existence of when 'Best Quantity' meets 'Best Quality'. The few minor details that may not warrant a 5/5 were outweighed by the many details that warranted a 10/5. All things considered, it is to put...
Read moreJUST DO NOT STAY THERE!! They will cheat on you. The location will be your last problem. Too many problems with this hotel and the staff from the reception tell you that they cannot fix but they will make you a full refund of the reservation just to close your mouth and kick you out of the hotel. 2 months later they still don’t answer to Booking to confirm the refund. We had to leave the hotel at night, book us another one , which was very expensive as it was a last minute booking, thinking that we at least will get our money back from this Xkeban property but not. They’re lying all the time and don’t take any responsibility. Not to mention that everyone passing by the coridor can see you taking shower, the stucked toilet that couldn’t be used so we had to go always to the toilet on the resta , the parties on the rooftop with till the mornings with children screaming and dogs barking, but they still make you sign a paper that people under 18 are not allowed in the property, neither pets. As well workers, painting the walls listening loud music and singing till 5 in the morning. The security guy wl tell you he is from external company and it’s not his problem. They’re selling as well rooms ‘ FOR 3 ADULTS ‘ and you will end up in a double bed ( which they call king bed ) which is absolutely not made for 3 adults sleeping on it. Very loud construction noise from the side buildings. The staff will keep on smiling on you as nothing happened and will reassure you that they will help you and give you money back but it’s all lies. They will never answer you or will get back to you. DON’T BOOK THIS PROPERTY. The area is very dangerous as well. No road, neither light...
Read moreWe arrived the day after hurricane Beryl. It turned out we were the only two guests so my experience might not be generalizable. Anyway, here goes.
The staff was very accommodating and had plenty of time for us. Many spoke impeccable english. There wasn't any electricity or water for a while so they spent some time making sure we had everything we needed to weather the passing storm. One member of staff even offered to bring us a bunch of candles which I kind of regret declining.
By evening, the hotel was lit up in all its glory. We had a couple of drinks by the pool on the ground floor which felt more like a pond before going up to the roof for a swim.
The hotel is a wonderful place to play hide and seek or just walk around in. It's not a very big place, but has warm lighting, bridges from one side of the hotel to the other, a ton of wood and plants, and colorful artwork so it felt like our little jungle.
They were kind enough to play our favorite playlist over the speakers. I'm not entirely sure they do that for everyone.
I only experienced the big suite (they gave us an upgrade) which has a little kitchen and a bathroom on one floor and the bedroom and balcony on the other. The whole place was very clean. I particularly enjoyed the shower mounted on the ceiling 3m up. I felt like I was standing in warm rain.
I'm definitely coming back the next time there's...
