My girlfriend and I stayed at TRS Yucatan from 2/28/25-3/7/25. We booked our stay and flights through Expedia. After spending hours looking at All-Inclusive Adults Only resorts, TRS Yucatan stood out among the rest. The room we booked was the Junior Suite Private Pool Poolside. Due to booking through Expedia, we did not have free transportation from the Cancun airport to the resort. Monica contacted us before our trip and arranged private transportation for us to and from the airport that cost about $3600 MXN round-trip for two passengers (not including gratuity).
When we arrived in Cancun, our driver was waiting and holding a sign with our names and we arrived at TRS Yucatan after about a 70-80 minute drive from the airport. Once we pulled up to the TRS lobby, our bags were tagged and checked by staff and we proceeded to check in. Concepcion checked us in to the hotel and also was the one who checked us out of the hotel. She was extremely friendly, informative, and welcoming on both occasions. Before we took a cart to our villa, Juan from the Palladium Travel Sales met with us to discuss the property and future vacation opportunities with Palladium. Although we ultimately declined, Juan was extremely professional and respectful of our time. If we decided to purchase an additional vacation package in the future, I would request to work with him specifically.
The resort property is huge. It's comprised of 4 different resorts, including TRS. TRS is the only adults-only resort on the property. TRS guests can visit and dine-in (usually with a reservation) at any of the amenities and restaurants at the resort. Transportation is either via a cart or walking.
Room- We booked the Junior Suite Private Pool Poolside with a preference of having one King bed. Our room matched our request and was located in Villa 68 which is about a 30 second walk from the Infinity Pool and
Read moreOur first visit to TRS five years ago was an absolute bliss like a paradise. However, our recent stay was just average.
Upon check-in, we were immediately directed to the Travel Club AKA timeshare. This left a negative first impression as we had to repeatedly decline participation in their information session. After a long day of travel, the last thing we wanted was to deal with a sales pitch.
Room – Suite with Private Pool Poolside
We stayed in a private pool suite which was spacious. However, the overwhelming smell of mold made it difficult to sleep. This was not just our experience. We heard other guests raising the same concerns. Since we spent most of our time outdoors, I was able to manage, but it was still unpleasant. The room was relatively clean aside from minor stains and dust on the couch, tables, and TV stand.
Spending time by the pool was challenging as agoutis, iguanas, and raccoons came to our patio/pool very frequently. Additionally, the private pool was a lot colder than the other pools at the resort to be in it all the time. If I were to return, I would choose a different room.
Butler Service
Carlos, our butler in Building 68, was outstanding. He was attentive, accommodating, and always ensured we were comfortable. His responsiveness and kindness were the highlights of our stay. If we ever return to TRS, it would be because of his exceptional service.
Spa Experience
We booked a romantic spa package which was fantastic - one of the best massages I have ever received. Leticia and Jorge were amazing therapists. Booking through the spa representatives by the pool offered the best deals.
The spa facilities including the hot tub, sauna, and steam room, were excellent, but the hot and cold tub temperatures fluctuated daily. Only downside of spa experience was that getting a receipt for our service was unnecessarily complicated. It took three days for me to get it. I had to email the spa(no response) and followed up with the receptionist multiple times to get it.
Restaurants & Reservations
If you’re visiting TRS restaurants, I highly recommend making the reservations as soon as you arrive for the next three days. Reservations fill up quickly and TRS restaurants do not easily accommodate walk ins. Despite being told we could try, we were not able to get in without a reservation.
Premium Travel Club
PTC is available for an additional $130 USD per night. However, the benefits offered did not seem worthwhile for us, so we opted out. When we first visited five years ago, access to Bali beds, spa, chic cabaret was included without an additional premium fee. Now, it seems that everything is for a money grab charging extra for experiences that were once complimentary.
Chic & Bingo Events
Chic cabaret and restaurant costs around $60 USD per person, but package deals may be available through your butler depending on the event.
We booked a Full Moon Romantic Dinner with Chic & Bingo. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, the dinner was canceled after we had only received the starter from a six course meal. Service was already slow which took 40 mins for my first drink to arrive and 50 mins for the starter. When the dinner was canceled, we were initially offered a 50% refund ($198USD total, meaning we would still pay $100USD for just a small starter). After escalating the issue to our butler and a manager, we were promised a resolution the next morning. However, I had to repeatedly follow up as the manager never reached out as promised. When I was finally called to meet the manager in the lobby but she wasn’t even available when I got there. I met a different manager and was informed that the charge would be fully refunded after worrying about it a half day which could’ve been just sent in one message. I asked for a written confirmation and was told I will get one but never did. The next day, during checkout, I noticed the $198USD charge was still on my invoice. This required yet another frustrating conversation with the receptionist and manager to get...
Read moreWe just returned from a lovely trip to Mexico! My spouse and I spent a week at TRS, then we came home, picked up our kids and the grandparents, and returned the next day for another week at Colonial. This review specifically refers to TRS, but you’ll notice some comparisons here and there:
Pros: The Infinity Pool is the most amazing, picturesque, wonderful pool we’ve been in. We would come back just for that. The simple syrup in the bars is real sugar, not the sucralose or fake sugars other resorts are using. This is one of the biggest reasons we booked this resort and we weren’t disappointed. The house wine is also quite good (which was another reason we booked here). The property is gorgeous. We loved having access to the other resorts, though in the end, we only ventured out for meals. (I would do this differently next time… When we returned for our second week, we learned that the Dance Team at Colonial is truly exceptional. I wish we’d gone over for more shows during our TRS week). Service was excellent. Specific shout-outs to Marcos at Tentazione who patiently spoke with me in Spanish throughout our meal, Santos at the Thai restaurant who joked with us throughout our meal, and Sherlyn at Helios who we always believed was genuinely happy to see us. The rooms were quite sound-proof, which we haven’t found at other resorts. There was no chair game at the pool. There were seats available throughout the day and abandoned seats were cleared off. This, alone, makes this resort stand out. Entertainment/Activities were excellent. Bingo night was one of the best nights of my life. I’m not kidding. It was hilarious. The dancers were incredible. I also loved the teasers for Chic that took place in the courtyard on nights they were doing the show. We also loved the daily activities (e.g. Macrame, Paint Class, etc.) It was nice having adult-y activities to do. I noticed that a number of staff members have braces. This leads me to believe that employees have access to a good benefits package. If that’s true, I love that. I love that so much. Thank you to Palladium for taking care of your workers.
Cons: Whoever designed the rooms was clearly going for some weird aesthetic that is totally not user-friendly. Why, oh why, is there a full-length mirror facing the toilet?! And why is the toilet so tall? And why isn’t there a real door to the toilet to block the noise? Why do I have to watch myself poop, with my feet dangling, while my spouse can hear me through the door?! And why are the lights on a motion-sensor? And why are the sinks so tall? Why isn’t there an easy shelf for me to put my toothpaste on while I’m brushing my teeth? And why is there no handle on the patio door to get back inside? The architects and/or interior designers were out of their minds when they designed these rooms. We liked the more run-down Colonial room much better, if only because the washroom had a door that actually closed. Our room was so humid that our sheets felt wet as we got into them each night. We were back at Colonial the very next day and didn’t have this issue there, so the problem must lie in the room/design, and not simply in the fact that we’re in Mexico with near-100% humidity. Although the service was, in general, excellent, we found that the incessant requests to “please give me a good review and mention me by name” became exhausting over time. There was even one activity we did where the audience was asked to yell the staff member’s name out loud enough times that we would remember it for our review, then we were told (jokingly, of course) to use a different name if we were going to leave a poor review.
Overall, the benefits (mostly the use of real sugar instead of sucralose!) make us...
