Stayed 2 nights from 15-17 October 2019. Good location and clean but many untrained and unfriendly staffs.
We arrived the hotel at noon. Front desk Ms. Asmaa and Mr. Mehdi were talking while we were standing at the front desk and they pretended not seeing us while we had been waiting for a greeting from them. They just kept talking and starred at their documents like we were not there at all, so we decided to approach one more step to them. We stood before them and it’s unbelievable that they just kept talking on their own. I first greeted them by saying “Hello?” before getting their attention. They responded “Hello” with a “1 second” smile and then continued their own conversation while putting the registration forms on the desk. Ms. Asmaa knocked on that paper with her finger without any explanations. I thought if I were a homeless person to beg for a bed. Ms. Asmaa seemed to be annoyed at our interruption of her talking with Mr. Mehdi. She stared blankly at the main gate, knocking her fingers at keyboard while Mr. Mehdi was assisting us on check-in. I doubt if Ms. Asmaa did a great job on being silent in the whole check-in process because she is so unprofessional, unhelpful, rude and disrespectful. She had better done nothing.
We went to the bar at night for dinner. It’s unusual that all the staffs tried not giving eye contacts with us while the Moroccans on the streets always welcome foreigners by greeting them friendly with smiles (although some of them are scams). We sat at the bar for a few minutes and kept watching staff Mr. Issam and Mr. Badreddine working on their own and ignoring us. Mr. Issam passed by us for 3-4 times, busied with his washing, watching the football match on TV and chitchatting with his co-workers, avoided greeting and giving us the menu. We doubted if they treated all Asians unfairly as racial discrimination, but we found that they were being unfriendly and rude to all Europeans and Americans too, except to the local guests. I only found their smiling faces and say hello to guests on their own initiative while they were serving the locals: 1. Ms. Asmaa greeted a local guest with a big smile while we were waiting for the lift in the next morning, 2. Mr. Ohman checked out the rooms of a Japanese guest and us with a poker face, but he looked like being very happy to see a local guest who was back to hotel by shaking hands and talked with him happily.
During our whole stays, we only appreciate 1. Front desk Mr. Medhi, who assisted us on check in and gave us information on visiting, 2. the staffs who marked room numbers and arranged the F&B in the breakfast room, 3. the doormen who helped us on luggage storage. These guys were willing to help all guests with courtesy, which is a basic working performance for a...
Read moreRight off the start, check-in staff was pretty unwelcoming. They spent minutes speaking to the guy who checked-in before us and they seemed genuinely nice. None of that friendliness was extended to us though. They seemed annoyed at slightest inquiries. There wasn't any queue behind us to rush. The curtains were stained and the towels were dirty, I complained about it to the reception they responded they'll send fresh pair of towels which never materliazed. I also asked if they provided dental kit, the response of the receptionist was verbatim "This is just 3 star hotel, Sofitel hotel has". This was for me a bit surprising because thrashing your own brand (ibis) is really makes one feel a bit uncertain. A simple 'No' would have sufficed. At breakfast they ask each and every person their room number and due to some error our room wasn't listed inspite of booking with breakfast and the man at the reception was really agitated. I had to ask him to calm down (verbatim) and to give me sometime for the app to open, to show the booking that contained payment details. No apologies for getting aggressive, that intimidated me a bit and from here on I let my partner handle the matters with reception. The wifi reception in the room (1112) was poor. Room was spacious but had no safe to lock the valuables and passport. Bathroom was clean except for the stained towels. Breakfast is decent. My window view was a building under construction but nothing I can comment about. It's a well located hotel with decent amenities but really the experience was bad due to the staff and it was a horrible start for us in Morocco. We stayed at ibis Tangier and they were exactly opposite of what ibis Casablanca...
Read moreThe reception staff is extremely rude and show zero hospitality to their guest. Upon arriving to the hotel, the concierge never looked up and greeted me. He only said "passport". No hello? How are you? Welcome to Casablanca.... The rest of the concierge just stared at me not saying a word. Next he asked for the city tax, then handed me my key and said my room number. No instructions on how to connect to the wifi, he didn't point me in the direction of the elevator, telling me the checkout time, or telling me the times for breakfast. I travel worldwide regularly to know the basic standards of hospitality. I find it to be very disrespectful considering my business helps keep them employed by generating revenue for the hotel. The rooms itself are very drab and mediocore for the price. Mine was facing the main road so I heard loud honking all day and night up until the early morning hours. There was a horrible smell of sewage coming from the sink and shower drains, stiff mattresses, and an old TV without smart features. They don't provide any toiletries besides liquid dish soap for the sink and shower. The phone in my room was disconnected preventing me from calling reception or requesting room service. On top of that, the housekeeper felt it was necessary to start cleaning my room promptly at 1200 while I was still gathering my suitcases. Overall, I had a bad experience and I would rather spend my money elsewhere. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who does not wish to pay money to an establishment just to be...
